MATCH REPORT
Frustration on New Year’s Day
By Ian Pugh
Coleshill Town began 2026 with confidence and expectation after a strong run of results, but New Year’s Day at Pack Meadow brought a harsh reminder of football’s fine margins as Boldmere St. Michaels edged a tight contest 1–0. The visitors came out aggressively and forced an early scare in just the second minute, when Cameron Belford produced a superb diving save to his left to keep the game level. From that moment on, however, it was The Colemen who controlled the ball, the territory, and the tempo. Despite dominating possession and creating promising openings, the final touch in front of goal proved elusive, with efforts drifting high, wide, or failing to trouble the keeper.
The second half followed a similar pattern until a lapse in concentration proved costly. In the 58th minute, sloppy defending gifted Boldmere a corner, and a further mix‑up inside the box allowed Omotolani Omotola to stab home the loose ball from close range. With the lead secured, Boldmere dropped deeper, slowing the game and protecting what they had. Coleshill were handed a golden chance to level things on 68 minutes when excellent link‑up play between Ben Usher‑Shipway and Harry Sweeney resulted in Ben being brought down in the area. Usher‑Shipway stepped up, but the Boldmere keeper guessed correctly and pushed the penalty away.
From there, the pattern resumed: Coleshill pressing, probing, and pushing, but unable to find the decisive moment. Boldmere arrived with a clear plan not to lose, and in the end they left with all three points, frustrating a Coleshill side who had done more than enough to deserve something from the game.
Attention now turns quickly to Monday night, as The Colemen continue their defence of the Walsall Senior Cup at Pack Meadow, 7:45pm kick‑off, before a demanding run of seven fixtures across a packed January. Your support will be vital as we look to bounce back and attack the month ahead.
