Still Bottom And No Luck For Coleshill
Following their poor performance at Home against Boldmere St Michaels, the previous week, Coleshill showed far more character and determination at Bridgnorth and they were rather unlucky not to bring back a point. The way Bridgnorth started everything pointed to bottom of the table Coleshill being swamped and for the first quarter they were penned in their own half. Colvin made a number of timely tackles to prevent dangerous striker Francis from scoring and with Hevingham playing well in midfield Coleshill managed to gradually even up the exchanges. Even so, the visitors were unable to prevent Francis from scoring his 11th goal of the season in the 16th minute. Coleshill immediately replied with a series of attacks that completely turned the tables and a free kick taken by Allen was fortunately cleared off the line by a packed Bridgnorth rearguard. Myatt and Prentice both went close to levelling matters, but home keeper Ball saved well. Near half time Bridgnorth reasserted their earlier dominance forcing three successive corners, one of which was cleared off the line by Holland. Coleshill began the second half striving to get the equaliser and Bridgnorth struggled to clear the ball as a fine cross by Forster from the left was narrowly missed by Holland at the far post. A right wing cross from Casey was hit into the net by Forster, only for Myatt to be penalised for pushing. The Coleshill offensive was maintained and Prentice slammed a vicious low shot at Ball, who could only collect at the second attempt. At this stage little was seen of Bridgnorth’s attack and it was virtually one-way traffic as Ball dealt with further shots from Holland and Hevingham. In a spasmodic raid Francis broke clear for Bridgnorth, but Witts dived bravely at his feet to avert the danger and Coleshill immediately hit back for Page to score, but the “goal” was disallowed for offside. From the resultant free kick Bridgnorth stunned Coleshilll with their second goal and again it was Francis who did the damage, scoring with a tremendous shot.
