Coleshill Boss Calls For More Concentration

Coleshill have lost all their three opening games in the Midland Combination First Division, going down by one goal margins, but Manager Mervyn Parsons is far from despondent. He says “We have played some fine football in these games and with more luck could easily have shared the spoils. I am sure, with that bit of luck and a little more concentration, the duck will soon be broken.”

Fortunes certainly favoured Oldbury in this encounter. Coleshill enjoyed territorial advantage for long periods and with a little more luck could easily have brought home two points. During the opening quarter Coleshill put together some splendid moves, forcing two corners and Gibbons hit the post with a rasping shot. In the 25th minute a fine through ball from Allen put Gibbons in the clear but Oldbury’s rearguard covered quickly to clear upfield and Coleshill’s new keeper Simmons was brought into action, saving from Guise. Coleshill countered by attacking up the right through Hall and McIntosh and they maintained the initiative until half time. Oldbury showed more determination in the second half, but both Gibbons and Whipps gave home keeper Hicklin a worrying time with accurate crosses from either wing. The only goal of the match came in the 58th minute when a cross from Smith was only half cleared and Robinson was on hand to knock in the loose ball. Coleshill again attacked strongly, Allen saw a cross scrambled away and Hicklin did well to take the ball off the head of Griffin, who had got up well to a Whipps cross. Hall then tried a long range shot that skimmed the wrong side of the post. Oldbury weathered Coleshill’s storm of attacks and looked more in control in the closing stages.
