MATCH REPORT
With this game set to be the last one for as least a month due to Covid 19 it was important to get three points and move away from the relegation places. Wantage finished bottom of the table last season but are having a better time of it this season with three wins so far and lying in 13th place.
Coleshill started brightly with the visitors keeper Middlehurst saving at the feet of Kia Tonge in the first minute and then the stopper pushed a 22 yard shot from Max Brogan over the bar. Wantage should have took the lead with their first effort as Tooke headed over the bar from a great position. Middlehurst saved an effort from Kia Tonge and then stood up tall when Tonge tried to lob him. Tonge’s pace sent him clear and his pass found Max Brogan but he shot over from a great position, best chance of the game so far. Wantage were playing some impressive keep ball football but rarely tested the home defence and at half time there was no score.

Coleshill were quickly in front in the second half to settle the nerves. Kai Tonge again was the catalyst as he got to the bye line and when his cross/shot was parried by Middlehurst, Josh Willis was on hand to force the ball home. Coleshill so nearly repeated the act minutes later but this time Middlehurst’s parry just evaded the waiting Daniel Dubidat. Free kick expert Max Brogan almost got the second but his effort was cleared off the line. Coleshill were getting closer and when Josh Willis headed on a Vidal Henrickson throw in Daniel Dubidat headed over the bar from a great position. Home keeper Paul Hathaway took a free kick from just inside his own half and it so, so nearly crept in under bar. Did he mean that??? In a rare goal attempt for the Fred’s Alexander saw his effort deflected for a corner. A run and cross by Kia Tonge just evaded substitute James Harrison when any touch would have resulted in a second goal but it wasn’t long after that it finally came. A cross from Kia Tonge came to Joe Halsall who had a shot blocked and it rebounded to James Harrison who again had his shot blocked but when the ball came to him a second time he made no mistake and Coleshill finally had breathing space. An inch perfect cross from one side of the pitch to the other from Max Brogan found Kia Tonge in space but keeper Middlehurst made a fine save and in the last action of the game Town keeper Paul Hathaway made a great save from a bending shot from Ballard to deny the visitors a consolation goal.
A good performance and a well deserved win taking Coleshill above Wantage on goal difference but what does the future hold? Will the season be put on hold for a short period or will we see a second season declared “null and void”?
