MATCH REPORT
By Colin Wheatley

A fabulous away performance saw Coleshill come away from their longest trip of the season with a 3-0 win.
Top six side Welwyn are one of the early favourites for promotion and had previously lost just once this season.

It had started raining by kick off and it wasn’t the best surface in the Southern League. From the start if you didn’t know, you would
have thought the team in blue and white were near the top of the table and used to playing on a cow field; and the team in claret & blue were near the relegation zone playing their matches on a snooker table-like surface.

Coleshill simply dominated the first half and played all the football. Liam Molesworth and George Washbourne linked up well on the right, and Amarvir Sandhu and Nehemia Zazi did the same on the left. Town's midfield dominated City's, the visitors back line gave away nothing. The Citizen’s defence had no answer attacks down both wings and with more accurate crossing Town could have had three or four goals by half time. I haven’t seen a team kick to touch out of desperation that often, as the Colemen's front players and midfielders hassled Welwyn into making mistakes. Despite fielding three giant players, head and shoulders above all of the opposition, I can’t recall WGC getting a single clear header that caused problems, or even a proper shot on goal in the first half, such was the quality of our defending.

Coleshill's persistence paid off after 15minutes when Amarvir Sandhu got in a great cross after he turned the full back once again and Nehemia Zazi was on hand to put it away. That was the event that started singing not heard from Coleshill fans since the heady days of our famous run in the FA vase. A stunned (and numbers wise disappointing) home crowd had to listen to our raucous “We’re the Coleshill boys making all the noise” right up until half time. After pretend complaints from the Citizen fans “do you only know one song?” we responded with “Loserpool, Loserpool” (sung to the tune of that famous Kop anthem) as news of Villa’s goal at Anfield filtered through and “Coleshill one Welwyn nil, hallelujah” (sung to the tune of Michael Row The Boat Ashore – trust me).
The cheers and applause for the players as they walked off for a rest was only tempered by thoughts of “we really should have scored at least one more” and by the sight of Joe Cole limping off injured.

After the break the inevitable fight back by Welwyn came. They started to pass the ball around, got into the danger areas and looked destined to score. For 20 minutes Town rode the storm and defended well, resorting to kicking the ball long, and throwing themselves in front of goal bound shots . In a pivotal moment of the match, an excellent shot from David Keenlyside looked as if it was going in, but keeper Paul Hathaway dived full length to his left and pushed the ball out wide to Matt Jackson who cleared it up field. Moments later a long clearance hit towards Nehemia Zazi as the only Coleshill player in the WGC half and anywhere near the ball, but he chased it and hassled the full back into conceding a corner. Immediately following the corner George Washbourne found himself in space just outside the box. He moved neatly round the centre back and curled a smooth left footed shot into the left hand corner for 2-0!

The fight seemed to go out of the home side then, and with conditions deteriorating it was once more Coleshill who dominated possession. This resulted in a fine headed goal by Nehemia Zazi after 75 minutes to secure the points. There were a few agricultural challenges by both sides and in a heated moment Liam Molesworth got a red card near the end. The home side manager wasn’t happy with the referee and told him so as he left the field, but in my opinion the ref made no decisions that affected the outcome and was quite fair for both sides.

Coleshill now have two Home games against sides around them and a chance to pull further up the league table.
Thame United Monday 4th November 7.45 kick off and Saturday Didcot Town 3pm kick off.

COLESHILL POST WROTE
The game was in doubt right up to kick off due to the weather and to be honest it shouldn't have been played, the pitch was a mud bath. But Coleshill put in a FIVE STAR performance and blew away a team among the favourites for promotion. Nehemia Zazi scored a tremendous double and George Washbourne scored the third. The best performance of the season so far.
