MATCH REPORT
Coleshill Town have had some fabulous results in the F.A. Vase over the last few years but they are finding the F.A. Trophy much more difficult. It is only their second attempt but two defeats doesn’t make good reading and they need to wait at least another 12 months to break into the record books and get their first win in the Trophy. Last weeks 6-0 win over Wantage should have increase the Colemen’s confidence but there wasn’t much of that on show.
The home side started the brighter and almost scored with their first effort when a shot from Cater narrowly missed the far post. In reply a Coleshill corner taken short by George Washbourne, Liam Molesworth’s cross skimmed the bar. From their own half a lightning break away resulted in the first goal on 12 minutes when Brown made yards and crossed for the running Cater who casually side footed the ball into the net. Coleshill’s best chance came when Liam Molesworth cut inside from the left wing and shot from the edge of the box but keeper Pond got down well and knocked the effort out for a corner, from which Joe Smith shot wide. Town keeper Paul Hathaway punched away a corner from Cater but on 36 minutes Cater’s second corner resulted in Chasetown increasing their lead. Cater’s quality delivery found its way into the net but it clearly came off Brown’s arm, not the first or last misdemeanour from the referee. 2-0 at the break with no doubt the better side were in the lead but any decision had definitely gone their way.
The second half was a drab affair with Coleshill looking unlikely to get anything from the game and Chasetown appearing to have done enough. George Washbourne went down in the box but he was never going to get any with this official and to be fair it would have been fortunate. Liam Molesworth has the ball in the net but was flagged off side. Brown shot from fully 40 yards, a fine effort but an easy save for Hathaway. Just before the hour mark Chasetown sent a free kick into the box but with the Coleshill defence clearing then pushing out, the ball was launched back in and found Brown totally unmarked on the edge of the box who then sent a sweet low effort into the corner of the net well out of reach of the diving Hathaway. 3-0 game over! Gio Dainty has a header saved just under the bar by Pind and Brown so nearly completed his hat trick but his goal bound shot was blocked by Keenan Meakin-Richards. Substitute Edilson Panzo-Antonio went down in the box in a clash with centre back Winter. The referee took a good look, like a rabbit in the headlights, and gave “nothing” despite the two players lying on the floor. Summed up his performance! Luke Keen had a shot headed for the top corner but Pond pulled off a fine save. Antonio headed Coleshill’s best chance of the game over the bar and Joe Smith shot just wide as the Colemen had their best spell of the game but it was too little, too late.
An early chance to get back to winning ways as Coleshill entertain North Leigh in the league on Monday night.
COLESHILL POST WROTE
This game followed the pattern of most games this season. Coleshill looked devoid of confidence, conceded an early goal, were on the wrong end of some dubious refereeing decisions, worked hard but never looked likely to score, and conceded two late goals. Coleshill are now out of the FA Cup, FA Trophy and the League Challenge Cup, all at the first attempt.
