Season Review:
Prior to 2008 Coleshill only ever met a Southern League side in an FA competition and were always the underdogs! The Colemen come from a history of playing in minor leagues but in the 70’s they were promoted twice to reach the Midland Combination Premier League and there they stayed for over 30 years. 2008 saw another promotion to the Midland Alliance under the leadership of Carl Adams. Coleshill weren’t finished there and after several years knocking on the door, top five five years in a row, promotion to the Southern League was finally achieved in 2018 with manager Cameron Stuart in his first season in charge, the highest level CTFC have ever played in their 134 year history.
Coleshill started the season with an FA cup game against Racing Club Warwick, a club now two levels below, but unfortunately a disappointing defeat put paid to what was expected to be a good run in the competition. Town’s first game at Southern League level was at home to Aylesbury and a fine 2-0 win saw the lads off and running. Just one defeat in the first four games, to Corby who eventually finished 3rd, and a win over close rivals Sutton Coldfield in the League Cup, meant everything was going well. Coleshill had a fabulous run in the FA Vase a couple of years ago, one win from Wembley and an almost 2000 crowd at Pack Meadow but a first ever FA Trophy game ended in disappointment at the hands of Kidsgrove Athletic. Tamworth were sent packing in the League Cup and a crowd of 600 saw a young Aston Villa side beat Coleshill 4-2 in the Birmingham Senior Cup. Coleshill exited the League Cup as Barwell won on penalties but in the League Coleshill were never out of the top half of the table. Their best performance of the season saw eventual promoted Bromsgrove Sporting put to the sword with a fabulous 3-0 win. Coleshill spent the later part of the season just outside the play off places, just one win from a top five spot and even in the last week of the season they still had an outside chance of reaching the play offs. Their last two games were against second placed Bromsgrove and fourth placed Bedford Town and although they competed well two defeats left the Colemen in 9th place, a fabulous start to life in the Southern League.
