SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
A match winning goal in the 53rd minute by Neil Brady (it was Chris Seaton) gave Coleshill the points to stretch their unbeaten run to four league games. Coleshill took the lead after 53 minutes when a free kick from Bennett found Seaton. His shot hit the post but Brady was on hand to supply the finishing touch. In a sensational finish Houghton almost scored with a long goal kick when his wind assisted kick was saved by Jones, under pressure from Brady.

SINGLE STRIKE HELPS COLES BEAT THE POLES

Plucky Coleshill did just enough in this derby battle to extend their unbeaten run to four games and to record their third win of the season. It followed another derby success in midweek when they had an even more emphatic victory of 3-1 over Bolehall Swifts. The hero of that game was Rory Cash with a superb hat-trick, his second of the season. Polesworth had the better of the first half, being wind assisted, without getting any reward for their efforts. Lee Williams beat two Coleshill defenders but from the visitors point of view, his shot went the wrong side of the upright. Chris Marklew had a strong shot turned round the post by the Coleshill keeper Darrel Houghton. Craig Feasey was unlucky to miss kick when he was in a crucial position but Polesworth's best effort was a strong long range shot from Dave Thompson which fizzed just over the crossbar. For Coleshill, Ricky Allen put through Neil Brady but his ground shot was saved by Graham Jones in the visitors goal. Brady also came close when he was brought down on the edge of the penalty area. He took the resulting free kick which beat the wall but was saved by Jones. Coleshill dominated the second half, there were many exciting incidents most of them involving 19 year old forward Paul Jones. He had an excellent game but he was out of luck with his finishing. His best effort was a lob over the advancing Jones which looked as if it was goal bound but somehow just missed. The deadlock was broken in the 53rd minute. Greg Bennett took a free kick on the halfway line, which sailed over the defenders heads. It was picked up by his fellow back, Chris Seaton, whose shot hit the post for Neil Brady to slot home the rebound. Coleshill's keeper, Darrell Houghton, who had an impeccable game to earn himself the Man Of The Match accolade. He nearly made a name for himself when his goal kick reached the length of the pitch and the opposing keeper was obliged to turn it out for a corner.
