Coleshill Back On Song

For over 45 minutes Coleshill huffed and puffed around the Bourneville goal. Then when the game looked to be slipping away, a piece of clinical finishing won the game for Town. When Coleshill score a goal it is cause for celebration but the defence kept their cool and in the end ran out worthy winners. The only goal came in the 75th minute from the second of two corner kicks. Steve Briscoe floated the ball across gaol, Martin Nugent was unmarked in the centre and he rose unchallenged to nod the ball home. Coleshill had two newcomers in their line up. Terry Smith a tall, slim, coloured striker made his debut. He was recruited in the week from the Birmingham Works League and was thrown straight into the action. Several chances came his way in the first half. In the 23rd minute he easily beat the Bourneville full back Graham Dunckley then drew keeper Gary Thrasher but shot wide of a yawning goal. After intercepting a back pass in the 38th minute, Smith tried to lob the advancing keeper missing the target by a yard. Certainly there is promise there and if Smith can develop his ability to get in where it hurts he could solve Coleshill's goalscoring problem. The other newcomer was Victor Hollier who stepped up from the reserves. Hollier produced an all action display moving forward from midfield to threaten the Bourneville goal. This lad looks ready for an extended first team run. Bourneville Athletic had player manager Les Taylor wearing the number nine shirt. His style of leadership involved directing a stream of colourful, mildly abusive language at his team. happily it did not work and hopefully the method will not catch on. Football can well do without it! On Saturday Coleshill face sterner opposition when they visit league leaders Paget Rangers.
