Coleshill Fall To Paget Power

Paget Rangers extended their unbeaten league run to 13 games with this narrow victory over Coleshill Town at Pack Meadow. The only goal came midway through the second half, Richard Holder slipped a defender, went round the keeper and calmly slotted the ball into an empty net. Coleshill with three new signings in their line up, fought hard during the first half to keep Paget out. There were times when Coleshill looked likely to score, but in the end it was the all round excellence of Paget that carried them through. At centre half Paget had a player of class in Gary Edmunds. Against lesser opposition the industry of Peter Watts and the bustle of Dave Keen might have brought results. As it was, Edmunds remained unruffled and the Paget goal intact. The visitors enjoyed territorial advantage for the first twenty minutes without troubling the Coleshill keeper Charlie Newall. Then Holder revealed his goal threat. He turned brilliantly to hammer a shot on the turn. Newall was equal to the challenge. Then Dave Keen tested Darren Clayton in the Paget goal with a shot from 25 yards. Holder was in action again in the 28th minute placing an oblique header past Newall. New boy Steve Briscoe saved the day, hooking the ball off the line. There were further chances available to both sides before the interval and the pattern continued after half time. Coleshill built a splendid move in the 55th minute, Martin Nugent slid the ball to Dave Keen. His pass found Trevor Smith but the winger shot wildly wide and the chance was gone. So the current league leaders defeated last seasons runners up, but the signs are good for Coleshill. Under Keith Shrimpton they are developing into a workman like side.
