COLESHILL GAZETTE WROTE
Coleshill Town FC Miss Out In Last Match

This has been a very exciting season at the Club. In March it looked as though they were easily going to be the Midland Combination Premier League Champions, but several bad results in April found them needing to win their last two games with Three clear goals to achieve this ambition. They played Stratford Town on 5th May at home, the team played really well and won 2-0 which meant they only needed to win their last game against Hurley Daw Mill at Hurley on the 12th May. This turned out to be a hard game with the final score being a 1-1 draw. So they had to be content with the runners up spot. Though they did have high hopes of winning the League for the first time, they are pleased to have done so well and to have enjoyed some good football at Pack Meadow. The Club House will be open as usual during the close season and there are many summer activities planned which will include a Barbecue. If you would like to become a member and a supporter of your Town's Football Club come along to the Club House in Packington Lane, where you will find a very warm welcome every evening from 7.30pm.

TAMWORTH (Coleshill) HERALD WROTE
ONE POINT AGONY FOR COLESHILL
Hurley Goal Sinks Championship Hopes For Another Year

A Hurley goal in the last eight minutes cruelly robbed Coleshill of the Midland Combination Premier division title. Coleshill needed to claim both points to win the title but with Hurley battling throughout it always looked like the one goal lead would not be enough. Coleshill took the lead in the first half - a half which they completely dominated. In front of a large crowd Coleshill eagerly assaulted the Hurley goal setting up a succession of chances. With 30 minutes gone the visitors got their reward when Mark Bishop sent Ashman running into the Hurley half. After beating two men he crashed in a powerful shot that eluded Hurley's keeper Lee Whitehouse and gave Coleshill a much deserved lead. Steve Burr could have made it two on the stroke of half time but he saw his fine effort rebound off the crossbar to keep the score at 1-0. The second half was a far more rousing affair as Hurley contested every ball and started to throw everything at Coleshill. Chances were squandered at both ends but Ashman will probably feel the most guilty because with just the Hurley keeper to beat he allowed Whitehouse to parry his rather poor shot. With Keith Evans in fine form in the Hurley midfield the home side began to look more and more dangerous and with 82 minutes on the clock they equalised. Kenny Willis thumped in a fine 20 yard free kick which somehow eluded the Coleshill wall and appeared to totally confuse stand in keeper Phil Caldercott. Coleshill tried hard to rally back but by the time the final whistle blew it was clear on their faces of the visitors that they knew they had thrown away not only the match but also the chance of a championship winners medal.
