Last Minute Goal Puts Title Challenge In The Balance
Coleshill's championship hopes took a severe set-back when they went down to a solitary goal in the 89th minute. The first chance of the game fell to Nez Kelly who has not had much luck infront of goal. His superbly struck goalbound shot was pushed over the bar for a corner. Coleshill were awarded six consecutive corners in the first ten minutes but failed to capitalise on a poor Chippy defence who were at sixes and sevens for most of the game. Coleshill dominated most of the first half and had the ball in the net twice but both goals were ruled out for illegal use of the elbows by Mathews and Kontey. Tim Clarke hit the post from 20 yards out after good play down the right by Dyer and Ashman. Coleshill were by now exasperated as they tried everything to clinch a goal as the minutes ticked away. It appeared that no amount of football was going to produce a goal. Chippy were given off side in the dying seconds and Mick Duddy took the kick midway into is own half but the ball was struck straight to Chippy centre forward who outpaced the defender to lob the ball over the head of the advancing Civil who had not one shot to save in the whole of the game. This result keeps Coleshill on the top of the league with a point ad a game advantage over rivals Highgate United who they play in their next fixture. Coleshill manager Colin Holder was utterly disappointed with the result and angry at the loss of key player Jim Rosborough with a broken ankle, once again sustained in Sunday football. "You cannot lose players of this calibre in the run in for the title. He has been scoring every other match and the Club now has a serious injury problem. Four players now out and are not likely to play again this season," he said.
