SPORTS ARGUS WROTE
A lively start by both teams saw Northfield create the first chance when Kirnon beat two men on the left before forcing Jordan to concede a corner. Alan McClaren was unlucky to shoot wide from 12 yards. Three minutes later Young weaved his way past three defenders and his shot from 20 yards was only inches over the crossbar. At the other end Ford crossed a lovely ball to Dyer, but with the goal at his mercy completely missed the ball. In the 12th minute Young, who was having a fine game in midfield, dispossessed Moore on the right and crossed a great ball, but fortunately for Coleshill, goalkeeper Collins just got his fingertips to the ball to divert it from the head of the leaping Smith. Right on the half hour Northfield were awarded a free kick when McClaren was impeded on the edge of the penalty area. Kirnon's well placed free kick found Young whose shot hit the upright giving the visitors yet another lucky escape. A good run by Hickey, making his first team debut for Northfield, again spelt danger for Coleshill but this time Gardner was on hand to clear the danger. First class defensive play by the visitors coped well with Northfield's enterprising attacks, produced an excellent first half of football, but no goals.
Half Time Northfield 0 v 0 Coleshill.
In the first minute after the interval Northfield took the lead.

SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Northfield Clinch It

Northfield took the honours in one of the best games seen at Shenley Lane this year. They had the better of the first half with Alan McLaren and Young creating problems for the Coleshill defence which coped magnificently although aided once by the upright. Though Coleshill attacked for long periods of the second half, it was Northfield who came out on top. A magnificent goal by McLaren a minute after the interval gave Northfield the lead and in the 84th minute when Belcher's shot went under the body of keeper Collins and Young followed through to make absolutely sure of the points.
