Deakin Earns Away Point

Knowle had to be content with a single Midland Combination point despite having most of the play at Coleshill on Tuesday night. Manager Gordon Cooper's men dictated terms for long periods but stubborn defensive play and poor finishing proved the vital factors. Coleshill could have taken a third minute lead when Jenkins put Calvert through but he wasted the chance by shooting straight at the keeper. Knowle hit back and Carter fluffed a chance when he hammered a Steve Howkins right side cross wide from only six yards out. Coleshill broke the deadlock in the 12th minute when Cartwright blasted a free kick through the Knowle defensive wall from the edge of the penalty box. Knowle stormed back and Howkins set up another good chance but keeper Collins did well to scoop the ball away from the feet of Nick Lewis. It was virtually one way traffic after the interval with Knowle pushing forward in numbers but they had to wait until eight minutes from the end for the equaliser. Gerry Brosnan started the move with a pass to Lewis who put Deakin through and he made no mistake with a shot into the roof of the net.
