THE SPORTS ARGUS WROTE
The first 15 minutes were very even with both sides taking a cautious approach in the slippery conditions. Coleshill built up several good attacks and a free kick was headed home by Burrows but disallowed for offside. Evans made a good save from a Calvert snap shot and then saw a terrific drive from Dyer just clear of the bar. Borough's attacks were rare but Joe Burnett went close with a clever chip taken with some difficulty by Hollins. Coleshill were frustrated by numerous off side decisions but generally were on top throughout the half which ended without any score. Coleshill's first attack after the interval tore Borough apart down the left side as Cartwright found Tipton with a great ball. Mathews saved the day for Borough, clearing for a corner with Evans in deep trouble. From a corner, two successive shots by Mason forced Hollins to save under pressure as Borough hit back. From a corner Mason hit a vicious shot which beat the goalkeeper but was cleared off the line by Pollack. Coleshill looked much the stronger side and Borough were forced to defend for long periods but Howard Knight, in the centre of the defence, held firm.
And later the Sports Argus wrote:
Coleshill Town are still showing the improved form expected under the drive of Colin Holder, they appeared to be heading for a draw against Solihull Borough but two goals late in the game by Jones and super sub Canning was to much for the Boro. This was Solihull's first game with new manager Ronnie Mason fully in charge and it would appear that a few changes could be on the menu.

Keith Signs

Coleshill Town have been given FA permission to sign Walsall Sportsco defender Keith Shrimpton. The ex - AP Leamington centre back has already played for two club's this season - Boldmere and Sportsco.

SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Late Assault And Borough Crack

Solihull Borough spent most of this hard fought game with their backs to the wall - but Coleshill broke through in the last five minutes. Coleshill scored in the only spell when Solihull looked convincing. With five minutes left, Borough goalkeeper Evans found his defence missing as a cross came from the right and Gary Jones, unmarked, kept his head and steered the ball away from the keeper. With Borough committed to attack, substitute Barry Canning exploited gaps on the right and scored a splendid goal.

SOLIHULL NEWS WROTE
Late Lapses

Solihull Borough spent most of this hard fought Midland Combination game with their backs to the wall and ended disappointed and the stronger and better organised Coleshill side cracked a stubborn defence in the final minutes. As so happens in football, Coleshill succeeded following the only period in 90 minutes when Borough were able to sustain a long period of attack. Borough could quite easily have gone ahead in this period when goalkeeper Hollins was forced into two successive saves from new player, manager Ron Mason, who in a hectic period saw a goal bound effort kicked off the line by a desperate defender. Joey Burnett went close with a clever volley while Leroy Memans caused chaos with some tricky runs into the Coleshill penalty area. Then suddenly, a defence that had looked impenetrable melted away leaving Gary Jones with only Borough keeper Evans to beat and the trap was sprung. Borough reacted in typical fashion and pushed forward with determination but gaps were left in defence and Barry Canning, a late substitute, exploited this brilliantly to score a killer second goal for the visitors.

Sub Canning Makes Sure For Coleshill

A sound debut by sweeper Mark Bishop, the former Paget Rangers player, and an exciting second half performance by substitute Barrie Canning, gave Coleshill another two Midland Combination championship seeking points at Solihull. New player/manager Ronnie Mason included himself in the Borough line up but it was Coleshill who dictated matters for most of the match, thanks to the midfield supremacy of Dyer, Russell and Jones. Fine saves by Borough's keeper Evans prevented first half goals for Jones, Tipton and Calvert and Dyer had a goal disallowed for off side, after heading in a free kick from Jones. Within 10 minutes of the second half Coleshill replaced the injured Micky Calvert with Barrie Canning and the diminutive winger was immediately in the action, running onto a through ball from Russell, only to be robbed by the advancing Evans. Cartwright set up a chance for Tipton, but his shot was cleared for a corner by Mathews, before Borough bounced back with Mason seeing a shot cleared off the line by Pollack. In the 72nd minute Coleshill deservedly jumped in front when Pollack, Dyer and Burrows combined for Jones to calmly side step vans and place the ball into an empty net. Kevin Tipton was unlucky not to increase Coleshill's lead with an overhead kick that flashed inches wide following a well flighted free kick over Borough's wall by Jones. Following a Borough corner the ball was headed clear by Tempest to Brad Russell who quickly fed Nigel Burrows and from his precision pass Barrie Canning sped through to crack in Coleshill's second goal. After the match Coleshill's manager Colin Holder said, "This was another encouraging win and I was pleased for Mark Bishop who played well in his first game and I was delighted with the way Barry Canning came back into the side. He will certainly keep his place if he maintains this form." This Saturday Coleshill visit Smethwick Highfield.

THE NEXT WEEK THE CHELMSLEY NEWS WROTE
Coleshill Prepare For Title Push

Coleshill Town are preparing for the second half onslaught on the Midland Combination First Division championship. Their game at Smethwick was snowed off but manager Colin Holder is hoping that this Saturday's home match against fellow title chasers Highgate United will be on. "The lads are extremely confident at the moment and with John Gardner back in the team after injury, I am looking for a good result," said Holder. Following Saturday's game the Coleshill players will be joined by their wives and girlfriends for a club Christmas party and if they have achieved two points it will have taken them back into the top three, poised for a glorious New Year tilt for top honours. There is good news concerning injured player Roy Rencher. He has left hospital following a cartilage operation and Mr Holder said this week, "Roy is progressing satisfactorily and could be doing some light training shortly." One disappointment, however, is that recent signing Micky Calvert is back on the injury list. Coleshill are due to play Mile Oak Rovers at Pack Meadow on Boxing Day.

AND MUCH LATER THE CHELMSLEY NEWS WROTE
Coleshill Back From "Arctic"

Coleshill Town's players and officials can see their pitch again. The massive snow drifts that engulfed Pack Meadow and virtually cut off the club from the outside world have thawed and hopes are high that Coleshill will play their first match for nearly six weeks - at home to Stratford Town this Saturday. While club treasurer Derek Gordon is deeply concerned at the loss of income from such a long lay-off, spare a thought for Bar Steward Barrie Canning (Senior) who lives in the house adjoining the club, but was entrenched in snow and unable to get out for four days. Meanwhile manager Colin Holder still recovering from his rib injuries, sustained in training prior to Christmas, did his best to conduct club affairs from his Burntwood home and he actually completed the signing of latest recruit, midfield player Steve Turner from Wythall. One player on Coleshill's books who has not been upset by the artic conditions is Mark Bishop. He has just gone through a three week suspension, but not missed a game. There has been an upset, however, for Coleshill's officials who after inspecting the damage from burst pipes and flooding have had to replace all the shower units in the dressing room. They now hope that all the club's activities can be resumed and members will rally round and give their utmost support in an effort to raise necessary funds.
