CHELMSLEY NEWS WROTE - Pre-Season
Coleshill Get A League Reprieve

Coleshill Town have been reprieved. The Midland Combination have extended their First Division to cater for 24 club's which means that both Cradley Town and Coleshill Town, who finished last season in the relegation zone, get a second bite at the cherry and maintain senior status. Coleshill's new manager Colin Holder Is "over the moon". He has been busy signing new players and the prospect of again playing in the top flight of the Comb means that there is a greater attraction for players to come to Pack Meadow. The Coleshill boss said this week "It is great news for the club. We have the facilities at Coleshill to warrent Midland Combination Division One status and I am confident we can consolidate next season and prove our worth". Among the newcomers signed by Holder are George Hackett, a sweeper signed from Walsall Wood, midfielder Bob Dyer from Boldmere St Michaels and strikers Kevin Tipton (Stafford Rangers) and ex-Northampton Town apprentice Mark Williams. Training takes place at Pack Meadow every Tuesday and Thursday and Coleshill will welcome any local players interested in playing in the Midland Combination. Following two private practice matches Coleshill continue their build up to the 1981/82 season with home matches against Burntwood Institute Saturday, Polesworth Tuesday and Nuneaton Borough Thursday.

New manager Colin Holder has already recruited some experienced players to lift Coleshill’s fortunes and the former Coventry City player said this week “I’m pleased with the way things are going. Training sessions have been well attended and the players are eager to prove that Coleshill will be a force to be reckoned with.” Newcomers to Pack Meadow include George Hackett, a sweeper from Walsall Wood, Bob Dyer a midfielder from Boldmere St Michaels, strikers Kevin Tipton (Stafford Rangers), ex-Northampton Town apprentice Mark Williams and Mick Jackson (Great Wyrley). Expansion Ruling After Appeal Success

The First Division of the Midland Football Combination was extended to 22 club at the League's annul general meeting. Last week's F.A. ruling upholding Cradley Town's appeal against their relegation into Division Two, meant that both relegated club's, Cradley Town and Coleshill Town, remain in Division One next season. Northfield Town and Stratford Town had already been promoted from Division Two and the club's decided to accept the management 's recommendations to the AGM that they remain and the division be extended. Newly elected Midland Combination chairman Pat Fellows commented: "We felt it unfair to demote Stratford and Northfield after they had made all the preparations and signings, ready to play. Division One football next season. We realise the extra fixtures could at times cause problems, but a number of our club's re hoping to have floodlights in operation during the season and this should help. The club's accepted the situation and there was a very happy mood at the meeting. We are now looking forward to an entertaining season." The outcome of the F.A.'s hearing in Birmingham delighted Cradley Town, who have a new Manager in Steve Williams and a completely rebuilt side ready for the new season.

Coleshill Changes
Coleshill Town manager Colin Holder, boosted by the news that his club is to remain in Division One of the Midland Combination, began his rebuilding job with three new signings. Holder, who retained just two players from last years squad, has now snapped up Kevin Tipton from Stafford Rangers, George Hackett from Walsall Wood and Bob Dyer from Boldmere St Michaels. Holder said “I am obviously on the look out for more new players. We are virtually starting again from scratch and it will be a very difficult job. I think it’s going to take at least a season to get the club back on its feet.”

Holder Signings
Coleshill Town have signed Northampton amateur Mark Williams. Nineteen year old Williams, followed his brother Keith to Northampton, but has now returned to his Great Barr home after two years with the Fourth Division club. New Coleshill boss Colin Holder moved in quickly to snap up the youngster he knew as a fifteen year old at Armitage, to boost the club's bid to regain Midland Combination First Division respectability, next season. Coleshill’s First Division status was preserved recently by an F.A. ruling overthrowing the decision to relegate them at the end of the season. Holder, busy re-shaping the squad, has also snapped up goalkeeper Mark Hollins from Walsall Wood, and defender Chris Davies from Sutton Town.

CHELMSLEY NEWS WROTE
Coleshill Unlucky In Opener

With only Barrie Caning remaining from last season, Coleshill Town fielded 10 new players for their opening Midland Combination game against Smethwick at Pack Meadow. The result went in favour of Smethwick but Coleshill can count themselves unlucky with a dubious penalty decision going against them. Coleshill made a brisk and enthusiastic start and it was 20 minutes before keeper Hollins touched the ball - and that was to fetch it out of the net. With their first shot at goal Smethwick gained the lead through Rivett, who took advantage of a defensive mix-up between Davies and Cartwright. Smethwick survived heavy Coleshill pressure with Hanson, Canning and Dyer, who had an excellent game in midfield, all going close to levelling matters. The second hal saw Coleshill maintain the offensive and in the 50th minute a shot from Dyer from fully 35 yards just skimmed the crossbar. But it was Smethwick who again found the net when in the 70th minute the broke quickly and Carl Campbell unfairly tackled Rees, a yard outside the penalty area. The Smethwick striker fell into the box and to Coleshill’s dismay the referee awarded a penalty. Rees immediately picked himself up and shit past Hollins. Coleshill never gave up and were rewarded a goal from Gary Jones. Manager Colin Holder said “I am naturally disappointed in the result but not at the performance. We were on top for long periods and gained 19 corners to Smethwick’s none, but that’s how the game goes and I am sure we will settle down and have a good season”.
Coleshill are at home to Boldmere St Michaels on Thursday, kick off 6.30 and the team will be chosen from: Hollins, Campbell, Churchill, Dyer S, Hackett, Davies, Gardner, James, Russell, Dyer B, Williams, Hanson, Tipton, Canning.

This Saturday Coleshill visit Bridgnorth and the next Tuesday are away to Mile Oak Rovers.
