Coleshill Still Hope To Escape

Coleshill's manager Mel Strong is fuming at his side's "terrible first half display" against Walsall Wood. "We gave them two goals through sloppy defensive play." said Mr Strong but he will still not concede that Coleshill will be relegated to the Midland Combination Second Division. The Coleshill boss added: "We have 12 games to play and being on the bottom rung I appreciate it will be a hard slog to escape, but I hope to make team changes before Saturday's game with Solihull Borough." Two players who could help in Coleshill's "Houdini Act" are Solihull Borough's Micky Ryan and Sheldon Promovere's Brendon O'Loughlin. At the time of going to press Mel Strong was hoping to complete their transfers. Talking to Coleshill's Chairman George (this must be Harry H) Davies about the possibility of relegation brings the immediate response: "The important thing is that we are still in excistance. We could have folded up at the start of the season when we had debts of £6500. Payments were outstanding to several groups including the VAT people. But we took immediate action and the most important decision was to cease paying any money to the players. Obviously we lost our best players, including my own son Chris Davies, who went to Sutton and Barrie Canning to Boldmere." Mr Davies continued: "Our manager Mel Strong found himself in a very awkward position and he has done exceptionally well in the circumstances." Coleshill have cleared all their debts including the penalties imposed by VAT and plans are now being prepared to improve the Pack Meadow facilities. Next season they are hoping to take Castle Vale Boys' League side Meridan Park under their wing and they have applied for membership of the Midland Combination's Third Division.

Graham Ford started the season as Chairman so Harry Davies must have taken over at some point before this.
