Season Review
Long time Chairman Harry “H” Davies died just four days before the season started with John Townsend taking charge for a short period before Harry’s son Chris took over as Chairman. Ron Mason stood down as Manager in the summer and was replaced by long serving player Brian Jordan. The coach was ex- Birmingham City player Joe Gallagher. Coleshill started the season well with three straight wins but three 1-0 defeats followed and an up and down season continued. Highlights were, a double over Runners-Up Solihull Borough, a 5-0 win over Mile Oak Rovers and a 4-0 win over Kings Heath. Town finished in 8th place, the 3rd best finish since promotion to the Mid Com’s top division in 1975. In the cups Town won only their 4th ever game in the FA Vase against Hinckley but went out in the next round to Hamlet S&L from Corby. Town beat Heath Hayes in the Walsall Senior Cup but went out to Blakenhall in the next round. They also lost in the first round of the Birmingham Senior Cup to Moor Green but reached the quarter final of the Challenge Cup before being beaten by Highgate United after a replay. Interestingly five players scored on their debuts during this season, Paul Horton, Ian Cockerill, Tony Malanaphy, Bob Timms and Tom Daly. The Midland Combination Premier League was sponsored by Scoreline and so became the Scoreline Premier for one season. There was prize money on offer that was shared between the top seven clubs, so Coleshill missed out again.
