COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Coleshill Go Out Of Vase

Coleshill were eased out of the FA Vase by a workmanlike performance by United Counties Premier Division side Hamlet S&L from Northamptonshire, writes Derek Gordon.
The home side had looked quite encouraging in the early stages with Steve Whipps putting a header just wide of goal inside the first minute and shortly afterwards making a great run down the left flank but sadly having no-one on hand to meet his cross. Then Ian Cockerill had the first shot on target which forced an excellent save from Hamlet keeper Dave Moss. Against the run of play though, Hamlet scored their first goal on the 21st minute from what was apparently a well rehearsed set piece. Jenkins took a long free-kick and found Hamlet's tall centre-half Wakeley Gage at the far post who headed over keeper Roger Tye into the far top corner of the net. The ball was probably wind assisted but it had the desired effect as far as the Corby side were concerned. The second goal came ten minutes later when Calvert picked up a clearance from a Hamlet corner and put Pollock through to score with a strong angled drive into the corner of the net. After that Coleshill had enough possession to get back on terms, put lacked the fire-power to put matters right against a well marshalled Hamlet defence organised superbly by ex-pro, playmaker and coach Gage. The one Coleshill player who could have made it a contest up front, John Taylor, instead was relegated to midfield but will probably be back in his accustomed centre-forward role for the next game.
