SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE

SPORTS ARGUS WROTE
Struggling Coleshill Town have become the latest Premier club to stop paying "expenses" to players. Manager Bob Nimmons explained that the club is diverting the cash to pay for floodlights, for which planning permission has already been obtained. "None of the players left when we announced the cut," said Nimmons. "We felt that it was just not worth paying money out at this level when we need to make ground improvements. We will review the situation in the New Year." Following Coleshill's poor start to the season in which they have won just two out of ten games, Nimmons is talking to two players from the Interlink Express Alliance in a bid to bring his side up to scratch. Coleshill centre half Jamie Harden has been suspended for 36 days and fined £20 following an incident in which he struck Meir KA striker Steve Bott in a recent Challenge Cup game. (It wasn't the cup game it was a league game) Meir reported the incident to the police after Bott was taken to hospital for treatment, and Harden has since been interviewed by officers at Coleshill station. Nimmons said "The police intimated that they will probably not be taking the matter any further. I feel Meir went too far in bringing in the police when the football authorities had the power to punish the player concerned. The ban they chose to impose in the end was not that severe and I hope the whole thing can now be forgotten."
