COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Coleshill's success had been built on a solid defence, a hard working midfield and genuine pace up front and this game went to a similar plan. Coleshill scored early when Mitchell Thompson guided in a volley by defender Wayne McKeown following a corner and dominated the half. Indeed, keeper Greg Allen had very little to do but as half time approached he ended up in the Referee's book for bringing down an Alvis forward just outside the box. Two minutes later a rare mix-up in the defence allowed Alvis to equalise with Ian Green slotting home from 10 yards. The second period followed a similar pattern and although Coleshill were playing the better football, they were unable to penetrate a stubborn Alvis defence. But in the 55th minute Thompson burst down the right and as his crossed found captain Tony Gormley unmarked he struck a sweet left foot shot into the right hand corner from 20 yards. In the 60th minute Greg Allen could have been red carded for another challenge outside the box but the home keeper was given a lecture and allowed to continue much to the disgust of the opposition dug-out. On 85 minutes striker Tim Hilton did what he had threatened to do all game, by slipping past his marker and striking a powerful left foot shot into the left hand corner to seal a convincing win for Coleshill Town.
