Saturday 17th August 2013
FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round
Stourport Swifts 3 v 1 Coleshill Town
Scorers:
Swifts: John Griffin 3.
Town: Danny Tymon.
Attendance: 88.

Team: Paul Hathaway, Danny Douglas, Dan Dineen, Luke Edwards, Jack Hulin, Chris Lloyd (Chris Cowley), Danny Tymon (Jordan Archer), Barry Fitzharris, Chris Gumery (Leon Weller), Nick Ellis, Connor Leek. Subs not used Paul Gognan, Aaron Evans, Jack Allen. Jon Powis was originally in the starting eleven but had to withdraw just prior to kick off.

Stourport beat Coleshill easily twice last season so when the draw first came out it wasn't a game everybody was looking forward to but Swifts have only taken one point from their three league games this season so maybe we were in with a chance!
The home team should have took the lead in the opening seconds when the Town defence just opened up but Paul Hathaway came to the rescue. The two impressive teams battled the first half out with Coleshill slowly starting to take control. Three minutes before the break the visitors took the lead. Barry Fitzharris saw his effort thunder off the post but Danny Tymon was on hand to tuck the ball into an empty net. A 1-0 lead at half time would have given everyone a lift but just two minutes after taking the lead, the scores were level. John Griffin, in the box but running away from goal, was given a gentle nudge in the back and down he went, penalty! No mistake from the spot, 1-1 at the break.
Whether this incident knocked the stuffing out of Coleshill or Stourport stepped up a gear, but Swifts dominated the second half. The home teams massive No5 headed goalward a corner and Griffin, who else, nipped in to take the lead. Coleshill finally came out of the changing rooms and started to create some pressure without testing the home keeper and then with less than 10 minutes to go Griffin made the game safe as he cleverly allowed the ball to roll across his body, fooling the defence, and hit a crisp left foot shot into the corner of the net. Chris Cowley tested the Swifts keeper in the dying minutes but the home stopper was up to the task to heap more frustration on the travelling team.

COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Griffin's treble ends Coleshill cup dreams but things go well in the Alliance

COLESHILL crashed out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle as a John Griffin hat-trick secured victory for the Swifts.

In a first half of few chances early on, Coleshill suddenly livened up with Chris Lloyd going close, hitting the side netting with a powerful strike.

Connor Leek then had two chances around the half-hour mark before the breakthrough came on 43 minutes.

Danny Tymon was the goalscorer, converting on the rebound after following up a Barry Fitzharris strike which slammed off the Stourport post.

However, Coleshill's 1-0 lead was short lived when controversy struck at the other end.

Jack Hullin accidentally collided with a Swifts player but the referee pointed to the spot, much to the disbelief of Coleshill manager Paul Casey.

Griffin stepped up and converted the ball into the net to send the teams into half time level.

Stourport came out in the second half with a renewed sense of energy and belief.

They produced some brilliant attacking football at the opening of the second half with Chris Morrison going close with a header.

The home side took a deserved lead on 56 minutes when Griffin touched the ball into net from a corner.

Town battled back with Fitzharris and Lloyd going close.

However, Coleshill hopes were destroyed when Griffin secured his hat-trick goal in the 83rd minute.

He should have made it 4-1 just a couple of minutes later but headed just wide of the post from an Evans cross in the latter stages.
