SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Coleshill Town drew 1-1 with Rocester, James Travis' first half strike being cancelled out by Craig Holland for the visitors.

COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
COLESHILL and Rocester have met eight times and their records in the past are equal in terms of points and goals.

As a result it was always going to be a close first game for manager Paul Casey and so it proved.

Rocester started the better and looked a good, well organised, experienced side.

However, they came up against a young Coleshill team who were out to impress their new manager.

Coleshill's best opportunities fell to Danny Carter who, on another day, could have grabbed a hat-trick.

With less than ten minutes on the clock, Carter jinked his way into the box but saw his effort come back off the post.

Minutes later, Carter chipped the keeper from the edge of the area but this time his effort went wide.

Carter then twice went clear on goal but his first touch, usually so reliable, let him down.

Rocester hit back and Edwin Ahenkorah did well to hold off Sam Wilson but saw his effort well saved by Paul Hathaway.

Ahenkorah then set up Craig Holland but Hathaway did well again to guide the ball over the bar.

It was Coleshill who took the lead just before half time as Chris Lloyd saw his free-kick thunder against the post but the ball came out to Travis who hit the ball first time into the roof of the net.

Rocester pressed to get back into the game after half time but Coleshill youth team defender James Mutton was immense at the heart of the defence as the home side stood firm.

However, Rocester eventually rescued a point as the unmarked Holland headed home from the edge of the box.

Report
These two teams have met eight times and their records are equal with points and goals for and against, so it was going to be close! In those eight games there has never been a draw, so it was written in the record books that this would be a stalemate. New Manager Paul Casey will be pleased with a point as his side worked very hard against a good Rocester side.
Rocester started the better and looked a good, well organised, experienced side but they came up against a young Coleshill team who were out to impress their new manager. Towns' best opportunities fell to Danny Carter who, on another day would have grabbed a hat-trick! With less than ten minutes on the clock Carter jinked his way into the box past two Roman defenders, curled the ball round the visitors' keeper but was so unlucky to see his shot come back off the post. Minutes later Carter chipped the keeper from the edge of the area but this time his effort went wide. And then on two occasions Carter was clear on goal but his first touch, usually so reliable, let him down. Rocester hit back and Edwin Ahenkorah did well to hold off Sam Wison and his left foot shot was going in until Paul Hathaway dove full length to tip the ball round the post. Ahenkorah then set up Holland and Hathaway did well again to guide the ball over the bar. It was Ahenkorah causing problems again but his header went over the bar when he should have done better. Rocester were starting to get a grip on the game but Coleshill were determined. A Chris Lloyd free kick caused an almighty scramble in the box. The ball was at the feet of James Travis 2 yards from goal but he couldn't turn to shoot and the chance was cleared. Jon Powis, who was a work horse throughout, had a shot blocked and a free kick was awarded. Up stepped Lloyd again but this time he went for goal, the ball thundered against the post, came back out straight to Travis who hit the ball first time into the roof of the net. 1-0 and only two minutes to half time.
Rocester came out for the second half determined to get back into the game and as Ahenkorah went down on the edge of the box everyone thought they had gained a penalty but the referee awarded a free kick just outside the 18 yard area. Rocester piled on the pressure and hit the bar with a powerful header but on the whole Coleshill were holding firm although getting deeper and deeper. Man of the Match, youth teamer James Mutton was immense at the heart of the defence as was ably assisted by his captain Sam Wilson. Coleshill broke clear through Alex Tomkinson down the left, he passed inside to Carter who saw the run of Jon Powis at the far post but the debut man couldn't keep his shot down and it sailed over the bar, a chance that could have sealed the game. Back came Rocester, Coleshill thought they had cleared the immediate danger but when a cross came back in Craig Holland was unmarked and his header from the edge of the box looped over Hathaway and went in off the underside of the bar. It was all Rocester from this point and Coleshill had to rely on Hathaway, his best performance since his return from Sutton, to make two fine saves from Roman efforts.
Coleshill remain in the relegation zone and wins, not draws are needed to climb the table but this was a good point and if Paul Casey can add a couple of experienced faces to the squad those wins will come from lesser opposition in the weeks ahead.
