Report From Coleshill Programme
After the surprise resignation of Andy Reece on Thursday afternoon the trip to Westfields seemed an impossible task for a squad at the lowest point in terms of confidance that they could possbly be. Andy Reece who had been in charge of Coleshill for three games was offered a job scouting the opposition for League 2 club Northampton Town, fully understandable that he took the opportunity but obviously not the right preparation for Coleshill Town. With no time to get a replacement in, Chairman Paul Billing decided to take control of team affairs for their away trip to Herefordshire. Coleshill started very gingerly having to try and settle into a completely new formation and soon fell behind to a silly goal on 17mins from Richard Kear. Coleshill steadied and soon started to expand their play with James Travis breaking free of his marker before shooting against the goal post. Danny Carter also broke free before pulling out a fine save from Matt Gwynne in the Westfield goal.
The second half saw Coleshill start very well indeed and they should have got themselves back on level terms when Danny Carter's goal bound flick ended up in Matt Gwynne's arms much to the keepers surprise. Coleshill did get on level terms in the 65th minute when a reckless challenge gave Coleshill a free kick just outside the Westfield penalty area, Danny Carter curling shot gave the keeper no chance. Jason Ramsey made it two sixty seconds later when he controlled a through ball turned and shot low into the Westfield goal to send the Coleshill contingent crazy. This was the result of a total pulling together of the Coleshill back room staff and players. Coleshill fought for every ball and every player worked his socks off, they defended resolutely and were well worth their win.

COLESHILL HERALD WROTE
Managerless Coleshill show their strength in adversity
COLESHILL overcame a turbulent 24 hours to secure an impressive away win.

The Colemen were hit by the surprise resignation of Andy Reece on Thursday night.

It left chairman Paul Billing to take the managerial reins and his team delivered their best result of the season.

Coleshill started very gingerly and fell behind on 17 minutes as Richard Kear scored.

Coleshill steadied the ship and started to expand their play with James Travis breaking free of his marker before shooting against the goal post.

Danny Carter also broke free before being denied by a fine save from Matt Gwynne in the Westfields goal.

Coleshill started the second half well and should have been on level terms but Carter's flick flew straight into Gwynne's arms.

Coleshill did get on level terms in the 65th minute when a reckless challenge gave them free kick just outside the Westfield penalty area.

Star striker Carter stepped up and curled a shot past Gwynne.

Jason Ramsey made it two 60 seconds later when he controlled a through ball turned and shot low into the Westfield goal to send the Coleshill contingent crazy with delight.

Chairman Billing said: "It was a terrific effort and this was a result of us all pulling together.

"The lads did everything that was asked of them. They fought for every ball and every player worked their socks off.

"They defended resolutely and were well worth their win.

"It was a massive bonus for us to go there and get three points.

"It was not a place we expected to get anything from so we have to be happy and hopefully we can battle on until the new manager is appointed."

Coleshill entertain Gornal Athletic on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

This result lifts Coleshill out of the relegation zone although only on goal difference, but the confidence this will bring is immeasurable.

WESTFIELDS PAY FOR MISTAKES

Westfields threw away 3 valuable home points when lowly Coleshill Town beat them 2-1 at allpay.park on Saturday when Westfields were guilty of some poor attempts on goal and suffered 2 defensive lapses when the visitors shocked the home side with 2 goals in the 65th and 67th minutes.

Westfields were without the suspended Joel Edwards, injured Phil Glover, and Dene Whittal-Williams and Anthony Robbins and this proved too much as Westfields failed to take their early openings.

Westfields dominated the first half but only had 1 goal to show for their superiority when Richard Kear slotted home from close range in the 17th minute. Earlier, Carl Morgan and Sam Gwynne had both put in good crosses but the attack of Kear and Cuss failed to convert good chances.

Westfields’ keeper Matt Gwynne then rescued Westfields with a fine save when Dan Carter got through on the Westfields’ goal.

Then, just before half time, Westfields almost grabbed a second goal when Craig Jones hit a superb right-foot shot which the Coleshill keeper saved at full stretch.

After the break Coleshill came more into the game and they drew level in the 65th minute when Scott Jackson conceded a free kick 25 yards out from the Westfields’ goal and Dan Carter fired a superb free kick into the top right hand corner of the net to put Coleshill Town level.

Two minutes later the visitors were in front when Wayne McNeill lost possession in the centre of the field and Jason Ramsay raced away to plant a low drive past the diving Matt Gwynne.

Westfields were chasing the game but their final pass was always lacking quality and when they did get into the penalty area they had 2 strong appeals for penalties turned down when first Jamie Cuss then Sam Gwynne were sent sprawling by the visitors’ defence but referee Jim Whittington turned away the strong appeals.

Manager Sean Edwards used all 3 substitutes, Rob Aldrich, Mark Davis and Aidan Thomas, in an effort to draw level but despite very good approach work the final pass and cross lacked the quality to beat the big strong Coleshill Town defence as the visitors held out for a surprise away win.
