Coleshill Town 2 v 0 Shifnal Town

Postby Alan Beckett » Sun Nov 02, 2003 1:16 pm

SATURDAY 1st NOVEMBER 2003
MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMEIR
COLESHILL TOWN 2 v 0 SHIFNAL TOWN
Scorers: Gareth Langford, Chris Davies.

Coleshill got their first win under their new management and a second consecutive clean sheet. Coleshill had already narrowly beaten Shifnal back in August but both teams were much changed from that encounter. Town’s reshuffle under Pete Wilson and Mick Beadle continued with a further four players making their debut. Simon Wczasek and Gareth Langford transferred from Bolehall Swifts, Kevin Wagstaff from Racing Club Warwick and Chris Davies returned from coaching in the USA.
Coleshill leading scorer Craig Davies was unavailable so Chris Davies took over his No9 shirt and was rewarded with a gaol on 14 minutes. A poor corner was easily cleared but the ball fell to Tony Gormley who cleverly lifted the ball over the advancing defence. Davies chested the ball down and confidently slotted home past the keeper. Coleshill played some neat football with the new signings looking particularly impressive but they could have been behind by the break. Danny Moseley made a fine stop in a one and one situation and was quickly to his feet to make a second save. Then a Shifnal forward blasted over the top when it looked easier to score, but that was the end of the visitors threat. The second half belonged to Coleshill and a second goal was scant reward for their dominance. On 64 minutes Chris Davies won the ball wide on the right. Davies squared to Mitchell Thompson who released Gareth Langford who had run from deep. Langford showed composure as he too confidently slotted past the keeper.

Even more new faces have been promised, but the side is starting to take shape and with four points from two games and two clean sheets confidence is restored and competition for places is fierce.

Team;- Danny Moseley, Chris Gee, Frank Woodburn, Steve Lees (Gary Falconbridge), Simon Wczasek, Tony Gormley, Danny Nixon, Gareth Langford (Pete Hall), Chris Davies, Mitchell Thompson, Brendon Shilton (Kevin Wagstaff).
