MATCH REPORT
SATURDAY 13th September 2003
MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMIER
COLESHILL TOWN 5 v 2 PERSHORE TOWN
Scorers: Craig Davies 2, Mitchell Thompson 2, Lee Dempster.

Manager Tony Gormley's plea for grit and determination over nice to watch football paid dividends with a handsome win over a Pershore team who had previously made an impressive start to the season. Coleshill even gave the visitors a head start with a needless penalty with only four minutes on the clock but during the recent poor run of results, losing six of the last seven games, Coleshill's front two of Craig Davies and Mitchell Thompson still look capable of scoring. The pair came up with the goods again with a brace apiece, Lee Dempster completing the route.

In an entertaining game Mitchell Thompson started the action with a shot that the keeper fumbled but saved at the second attempt. Pershore went straight up the other end and as neither keeper or defender took responsibility to clear, a forward nipped in between them and was upended by Moseley as he tried to get to the ball first. Gordy Beachamp scored from the spot. On thirteen minutes Johnson chipped the ball into the left channel and as a defender slipped when attempting to clear Mitchell Thompson took advantage to cut inside and confidently slot past the keeper. On seventeen minutes Thompson combined with Craig Davies to carve open the visitors defence with a double 1-2, and Davies coolly slotted past the keeper for number two. Pershore hit back with Danny Moseley making a smart save to push away for a corner. On the half hour Davies and Thompson combined again but this time Davies provided the cross for Thompson to head over the advancing keeper. This should have been game over but Coleshill?s defensive frailities showed again as a long ball was allowed to bounce and Brian Delaney nipped in to head over a stranded Moseley. Thompson almost completed his hat trick before half time as he hit the side netting from a Lee Dempster pass.
Thompson started the second period in the same rich vain of form as he forced a corner in the first minute. The cross was partly cleared but it fell to Lee Dempster who hit home on the volley from ten yards. Play became stretched with the ball going from end to end but it was Coleshill who had the cutting edge. On 71 minutes Craig Davies carved out an individual goal to make it eight strikes already this season. Davies picked the ball up wide on the right and cut inside passing three defenders before hitting a left foot shot that the keeper parried but couldn?t hold onto and the ball trickled over the line. That?s were the scoring ended with Pershore coming more into the game as Coleshill?s hard work began to take its toll but the home goal was never in any serious danger.
