SIX OF THE BEST
A hatrick from Danny Carter helped to seal a sizeable victory for Coleshill Town over Causeway United on Tuesday evening as Coleshill remained unbeaten with a 6-1 win.
The hosts ensured that Causeway were on the backfoot from the word go, and only the crossbar could deny Chris Gumery from opening the scoring in the 12th minute. It would take the striker just sixty seconds to atone for his miss though, as he slotted home from Carter's through ball on the left wing to put the Colemen one up. Luke Edwards almost doubled the lead with a looping header that was caught well by the 'keeper. A second goal was added on 22 minutes, as Gumery turned providor with a perfectly weighted cross which Carter met splendidly to acrobatically sidefoot home.
The diminutive playmaker may have added to his personal tally on a few occasions, but was stopped by last ditch tackles twice when faced with the goalkeeper and saw a volley fly wide of the post. A third goal was added in stoppage time before the break though as Ben Porter added another moment to his highlight reel, cutting into the box from the left hand side, clattering a shot from a tight angle against the post and into the net. The aesthetically pleasing goal capped off a dominant first half performance from Coleshill Town.
If Carl Adams had mentioned the Brocton Town comeback in his team talk, the players must have forgotton, as Steve Bowes was allowed time and space to shoot across Craig Johnson and into the bottom corner to pull a goal back six minutes into the half. Any anxiety that may have set in as a result was banished by Danny Carter a minute later, as he latched on to a long ball to the edge of the box, utilising a corridor of space before nestling the ball home to restore the three goal cushion. Any hopes of a comfortable last third of the game were under threat though, as goalscorer Bowes let loose a viciously dipping long range shot that collided with the underside of the crossbar before bouncing back into play as Johnson was left stranded. Bowes would continue to be the most creative Causeway player with a volleyed effort from a contentiously awarded corner, but stand-in right back Jon Powis was on hand to block the shot on the line.
Powis was involved in the attacking side of play just as much as the defensive side, and created the fifth goal for Coleshill after 73 minutes. The right sided player swung in a cross to the back post, with Richard Gregory heading back across goal for Carter to nod home for his well deserved hatrick. It was elementary from thereafter, and Gregory was the final name on the scoresheet with a delighful finish right inside the top corner to earn his first goal for the club, before Liam Givans' attempt to follow this was an inch away from finding the exact same spot.
Team: Craig Johnson, Jon Powis, Luke Edwards, Levi Bailey, Steve Hakner, Ben Porter, Rob Freeman, Liam Givans, Danny Carter (Warren Miller), Chris Gumery (Richard Gregory), Matty Robinson,
Booked: Luke Edwards.
Report By Jack Arkell.
This is Coleshill's biggest win since the 8-0 spanking of Cradley Town back in February. Coleshill's last hat trick was by Marvin Johnson against Malvern Town 12th December 2009 and Danny Carter's last hat trick for Town was way back in April 2007 in an 11-0 win over Alveston, he got four that day, and his only other hat trick for Coleshill was in February 2006 in a 4-2 win over Cadbury Athletic.
