LATE DEFLATION FOR COLESHILL

On an evening in which the score line didn't reflect the game in the slightest, Coleshill Town missed out on the points they craved to cement a place in the top eight.
The game got off to the worst possible start for the visitors as Dave Pearson received a misplaced punched clearance from Craig Johnson, the striker completing the simple task of forcing the ball past Jason Lanns on the line to take an early lead. The response was positive from Coleshill, who restored the parity on twenty minutes with a beautifully engineered goal. Luke Edwards' set piece found Chris Gumery in acres of space on the left side of the penalty area, the front man pulling the ball back for young Steven Hakner who finished the move with a composed finish well beyond his years, stroking into the bottom corner.
Stratford put their visitors under a spell of pressure in the latter stages of the half, but couldn't get the finishing touch, as Pearson wasted a further chance whilst Mark Faulds' driven attempt was palmed away well by Johnson.
Immediately after the break Matty Robinson rustled the side netting, before Hakner almost doubled his own personal tally, steering his shot across goal after Ben Porter's cross. Coleshill hearts were in mouths twice thanks to Stratford captain Barry Woolley, as two headed attempts from corners almost put the home side in front, but Recci's block on the line and another superb save from Craig Johnson kept their opponents at bay.
Stratford continued to test Johnson, but each time the 'keeper was equal to the efforts. A volley from Pearson looked destined for the bottom corner until an unbelievable save from Johnson, getting down well to tip wide. This resistance would come to an end in extremely unfortunate fashion in a frenetic final ten minutes, as Johnson once again kept Pearson out, but his save from a looped attempt would only fall into the danger area for Faulds to net from point blank range.
As Coleshill pushed forward for a quick response, gaps appeared in the defence and substitute Myron Semper capitalised with two goals in the space of three minutes, confidently rounding Johnson before slotting into the net for each of his strikes. Semper would waste a chance for a five minute hat-trick in stoppage time as a penalty was awarded to Stratford, but the striker seemed over-confident following his earlier brace, rolling the ball into the middle of the goal for Johnson to save.
Coleshill will be disappointed with the harsh score line, but with the season winding down there is every chance that with a strong finish, a deserved place in the top eight can be achieved.

Team: Craig Johnson, Leyiso Recci, Jason Lanns, Luke Edwards, Steve Hakner (Barry Fitzharris), Rob Evans, Ben Porter, Rob Freeman, Jon Powis, Matty Robinson (Lewis Moss), Chris Gumery.
