COLESHILL missed out on a clash with West Bromwich Albion as they slumped to a 3-1 defeat at Rushall Olympic.
Olympic were first to threaten in the third minute when a cross field pass by Richard Beale from the right channel picked out the run of Niki Preston, whose low 35 yard drive had goalkeeper Craig Johnson scrambling across his goal line to gather safely at the second attempt.
As the first period progressed, Coleshill saw plenty of the ball and, on 22 minutes, central defender Anthony Hall saw his 30 yard free kick rise narrowly over the crossbar.
On 32 minutes an excellent sliding tackle by Niki Preston, coming in from the right, prevented the fleet footed Matt Robinson from opening his sides account as the striker progressed menacingly into the Pics penalty area after casting off his defensive shackles far too easily.
The warning was merely a precursor and, within five minutes, Coleshill deservedly took the lead as Robinson carved his way into the right face of the box and drilled an angled drive across Tony Breeden into the bottom left corner. Michael Campbell and then James Dance both had good oportunities to increase the lead as Coleshill finished the half on top.
Half Time Rushall Olympic 0-1 Coleshill Town

Rushall thought they had equalised within ten minutes of the restart as Paul Szewczyk dived in at close range to knock the ball over the line.
However, it was the striker's hand and not his head that had made contact with the ball and the net result was a free kick to Coleshill and a caution for the front runner.
On 58 minutes, an excellent deep centre from the right flank by Lee Gough was begging to be headed home by Olympic's front line but Craig Marshall and Paul Szewczyk both failed to make contact as the danger bounced clear across the face of goal.
Rushall's pressure eventually told as they finally restored parity in the 63rd minute when another telling centre from Lee Gough this time picked out the unmarked Gary Fitzpatrick who headed firmly across 'keeper Johnson into the right side of the goal from 12 yards out.
Three minutes later and the game was quickly turned on its head as the home side took the lead when an initial drive from Craig Marshall was repelled by a defensive block only as far as Szewczyk, who drilled the ball clinically home from the edge of the box.
The Pics sealed their passage into the next phase of the competition when from out of nowhere unmarked substitute Nathan Lamey managed to find the net with a harmless looking shot from 20 yards out.

COLESHILL GAZETTE WROTE
Coleshill mised out on a prestitous home game with West Bromwich Albion due to this defeat. With Coleshill now playing at a higher level of football, they are eligible to compete in the Birmingham Senior Cup. The problem with that is that they come up against some very good teams. Rushall are a league above and top of it, so this was always going to be a tough one. Coleshill played well in the first half and deserved their 1-0 lead at half time courtesy of Matty Robinson, but Rushall laid seige to Coleshill's goal in the second half and ran out deserved 3-1 winners.

Report from Rushall Olympic
Rushall Olympic set up an attractive home tie with West Bromwich Albion in Round 3 of the Birmingham Senior Cup, but they had to do it the hard after being forced to overturn a half time deficit against lower league Coleshill Town at Dales Lane.

During the opening half the Pics distinct lack of urgency proved to be their undoing as the pace of the visitor's caused much consternation amongst the home defensive ranks.

However, Olympic were first to threaten in the third minute when a cross field pass by Richard Beale from the right channel picked out the run of Niki Preston whose low 35 yard drive had 'keeper Craig Johnson scrambling across his goal line to gather safely at the second attempt.

As the first period progressed, Coleshill were beginning to see plenty of the ball and on 22 minutes central defender Anthony Hall saw his 30 yard free kick rise narrowly over the crossbar.

Four minutes later and as the visitors were penalised for a back pass to their custodian, the resulting 15 yard free kick was side footed by Lee Barrow to Paul Szewczyk, whose powerful drive was deflected by the defensive wall into the path of Craig Marshall, only to see the front runners effort also repelled.

On 32 minutes an excellent sliding tackle by Niki Preston, coming in from the right, prevented the fleet footed Matt Robinson from opening his sides account as the striker progressed menacingly into the Pics penalty area after casting off his defensive shackles far too easily.

The warning was merely a precursor as to what was to follow when within five minutes Coleshill deservedly took the lead as the telling pace of their players once more proved to be Rushall's downfall. Matt Robinson was again the Pics chief tormentor as the front runner carved his way into the right face of the box and drilled an angled drive across Tony Breeden into the bottom left corner.

The Dales Lane faithful were certainly looking for a positive response from their side during the second period and ten minutes after the restart Rushall thought they had equalised as Paul Szewczyk dived in at close range to knock the ball over the line. However, it was the strikers hand and not his head that had made contact with the ball and the net result was a free kick to Coleshill and a caution for the front runner.

On 58 minutes an excellent deep centre from the right flank by Lee Gough was begging to be headed home by Olympic's front line, but Craig Marshall and Paul Szewczyk both failed to make contact as the danger bounced clear across the face of goal.

Rushall's pressure eventually told as they finally restored parity in the 63rd minute when another telling centre from Lee Gough this time picked out the unmarked Gary Fitzpatrick who headed firmly across 'keeper Craig Johnson into the right side of the goal from 12 yards out.

Three minutes later and the game was quickly turned on its head as the home side took the lead when an initial drive from Craig Marshall was repelled by a defensive block only as far as Paul Szewczyk, who drilled the ball clinically home from the edge of the box.

With two minutes remaining Olympic sealed their passage into the next phase of the competition when from out of nowhere unmarked substitute Nathan Lamey provided a devastating finish from 20 yards out as the striker turned and fired low and hard into the bottom right corner past the despairing dive of the Coleshill custodian.
