THIS WEEK 2013/14 -25, 50 and 100 YEARS AGO WEEK 34
1988/89
Saturday 1st April 1989
Walsall Wood 1 v 2 Coleshill Town
Scorers: Paul Brady, Rory Cash.
Sunday Mercury Wrote:
Coleshill Town avenged an earlier defeat with a somewhat surprising and undeserved victory at Walsall Wood. After soaking up 30 minutes of pressure by the home side, the visitors shook Walsall Wood by scoring twice inside four minutes. In the 33rd minute a cross by Rory Cash found Paul Brady unmarked and he found the net with a powerfully struck effort, then four minutes later Coleshill furthered their advantage when a cross by Paul Mulholland was headed home by Cash. The home side tried hard in the second half to repair the damage but it was not until the 71st minute that they finally reduced the deficit when Richard Assom turned his marker, played the ball to Colin Keraley who reduced the deficit with a shot that found the net via the underside of the bar. For all their possession, Walsall Wood failed to break down for a second time, a resolute Coleshill defence.
