Coleshill Town's Casey: 'We are just enjoying ourselves'
Writes the Coleshill Herald
Coleshill Town boss Paul Casey says his squad are playing with freedom and without pressure right now – and it's reaping rewards.
Casey has conceded his squad are unlikely to win the Midland Premier League title as they are 11 points behind leaders Long Eaton but do have a game in hand.
But Casey says the fact his players are now relaxed again has paid dividends.
Last week's 5-0 thumping of fellow top-six side Boldmere was their third win in a row, and they have scored 13 goals in the process.
"Maybe this season we have been battling with expectation a bit," he said.
"We finished in the top four last year and people had us down as one of the title favourites.
"We have done well but, in terms of the league title, it is someone else's to lose really.
"But I think that has actually released the pressure valve somewhat in recent weeks.
"We are playing some free-flowing football, we are creating chances and making ourselves difficult to score against as well.
"We have the second best goals tally in the league and the second meanest defence, behind Walsall Wood.
"Shifting Craig Milligan into central midfield alongside Danny Tymon has settled us down and really given us a platform from which to defend properly.
"At the other end, we are creating chance after chance with lads like Rickie Cutting, Dean Rathbone, Shane Benjamin and Chris Lloyd having freedom to get forward.
"So we are doing well and hopefully we can just finish the season as high as we can.
"Fourth place or above would still represent an amazing season for us."
Next up in their attempts to make the top four is a clash at home to Kirby Muxloe.
While Coleshill are fifth, Kirby one place and two points better off.
"It's a tough game but we are looking forward to the test," he said. "I would be overjoyed if we could win it this weekend."
