Continental Star 0 v 2 Coleshill Town

Postby Alan Beckett » Sun Oct 29, 2006 3:17 pm

Saturday 28th October 2006
Midland Combination Premier Division
Continental Star 0 v 2 Coleshill Town
Scorers: Raddi Richards, Danny Carter.

Coleshill continued their fine recent form with their six straight league win and at the same time set a new club record of 420 minutes since they last conceded a goal.

But this was far from an easy three points as Continental Star had their fair share of the chances. Star have had some impressive wins lately including the scalp of Coventry Sphinx and they are a far better side than in recent years, but they still play the same way, high tempo with lots of pace and power. Coleshill stood up to the challenge, something they have failed to do over the last few years and just had the edge to come out on top. The goals came on 50 minutes when Michael Campbell flicked on for Raddi Richards to nip in and lob over the advancing keeper and then in injury time Campbell again fed Danny Carter who side stepped his marker before slotting past the keeper. In between the two goals Star threw everything at Town but the defence stood tall and proud with Des Wilkes, Ryan Gardiner and Mark Ward all making match winning blocks or tackles, the latter having to leave the pitch with bruised ribs. Behind the back three keeper Greg Allen had another impressive game between the sticks. Michael Campbell should have had reward for his allround display but was denied by a fine save from the home keeper when through on goal.

Team;- Greg Allen, Mark Ward (Simon Volante), Des Wilkes, Ryan Gardiner, Rob Ellis, Paul Burns, Josh McPherson, David Brush, Raddi Richards (Danny Carter), Michael Campbell, Kevin Wagstaff (James Dance). Sub not used Carlos McIntosh.
