Coleshill Town 5 v 2 Massey Ferguson

Postby Alan Beckett » Sun Oct 30, 2005 4:25 pm

Saturday 15th October 2005
Midland Combination Premier Division
Coleshill Town 5 v 2 Massey Ferguson
Scorers: Michael Campbell 2, Kevin Wagstaff, David Brush, James Dance.

Manager Mick Beadle was able to name an unchanged team following the mid week win over then league leaders Alveston, for the first of three games against the current bottom three teams in the league.

Massey belied their lowly position in the opening minutes as they took the game to Coleshill. They had a header over the bar, a shot from No6 which Day had to push away for a corner and the same player shot just wide from 20yds before Coleshill settled and took the lead on 9mins. Michael Campbell's strength took him clear of the visiting defence and he confidently lifted the ball over the advancing keeper and into the net. Massey continued their spirited performance but Coleshill started to coast with a second goal on 18mins. From a throw in David Brush cleverly flicked the ball to Campbell and made enough space for himself to accept the return pass and finish hard and low past the keeper. Brush should have had his second minutes later but shot wide, then Campbell turned his marker and slid the ball invitingly for James Dance who passed the ball into the net for a three goal lead with less than half an hour gone. Massey looked a spent force at this time and Kevin Wagstaff made it even worse for the visitors as he strode forward and hit an effort from 25yds that the keeper got to but could only parry the ball into his own net. Miles Millington-Day got caught in no mans land but was rescued by the alert Des Wilkes as he headed clear a goal bound effort and Ferguson struck the bar on the stroke of half time.

Coleshill's performance and concentration dipped at the start of the second half as they considered the game over. Massey had other idea's and No10 outpaced Simon Bradbury and slid the ball passed Day and minutes later it was 4-2 as the Coleshill defence failed to clear the danger. It could have all gone wrong for Coleshill as they were reduced to ten men with Simon Bradbury getting a second yellow for swearing at the Assistant Referee and then Wagstaff conceded a penalty when attempting to hook clear a cross. Luckily, Millington-Day stood his ground and blocked the spot kick with his feet to save Town from an anxious last few minutes and Campbell finally made the game safe with his second and Coleshill's fifth on 88 minutes as he ran half the length of the field before slotting under the advancing keeper.

Team;- Miles Millington-Day, Alan Wright, Des Wilkes (Linsell Taylor), Simon Bradbury, Sam Chatwin (Shaun Kidson), Dan Greaves (Donavan Rowe), Rob Ellis, Kevin Wagstaff, David Brush, Michael Campbell, James Dance. Subs not used Mitchell Thompson, Myrone Levy.
