Coleshill Town 2 v 3 Castle Vale

Postby Alan Beckett » Wed Oct 19, 2005 12:52 pm

TUESDAY 14th OCTOBER 2005
MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMIER DIVISION
COLESHILL TOWN 2 v 3 CASTLE VALE
Scorers: Michael Campbell, Mitchell Thompson.

Mick Beadle made only one enforced change to the sixteen who did so well against Barnt Green in the Vase on Saturday with Chris Butler coming in for the injured Miles Millington-Day. This was Chris's third game for the 1st team and despite hardly putting a foot wrong has now let in 12 goals and has yet to be involved in a draw let alone a win!

These two sides don't like playing each other as there is too much at stake and everyone knows everyone else and defeat is too hard to swallow but they are, without a doubt, two young, talented and committed sides who, one day, will be doing battle at the very top of this league. The football in the first half was a joy to watch but more like a chess game as both sides try to figure each other out, resulting in stalemate! If the game had continued like that and ended 0-0 both parties would have been happy but as half time approached Danny Glasgow was caught in possession by Vale's own goal machine Arran Smith and he made sure the visitors went into the break in front. Coleshill worked hard to get back into the game and deserved some good fortune as Michael Campbell forced home a Dan Greaves corner on 49 mins. This was the home teams best spell and they looked the more likely to score again but an horrendous throw in across the back line deflected into the path of Smith who again took his chance to restore Vale's lead. Campbell was fouled on the edge of the box and James Dance's free kick was superbly saved by Leach in the Vale goal. Castle Vale hit back again when ex Coleshill player Christian Crisp forced Butler into a save but the rebound fell kindly for substitute No 14 to hit the roof of the net. Greaves looked certain to score from only six yards out but again Leach came to the rescue but from another Greaves corner Mitchell Thompson gambled on the near post to glance home a header. Kevin Wagstaff headed over a Sam Chatwin free kick in the last minute but Vale had done enough to take all three points in this early season encounter. Bring on the next one, it's our turn!

Team:- Chris Butler, Danny Glasgow, Simon Bradbury, Sam Chatwin, Des Wilkes, Dan Greaves, Rob Ellis, Shaun Kidson (Danny Hickman)( Mitchell Thompson), David Brush (Kevin Wagstaff), Michael Campbell , James Dance . Subs not used Myrone Levy, Chris Gee.
