New Hope For Town

Coleshill ended a disappointing season in the Midland Combination First Division, but while they have to apply for re-election they please new Manager David Kite with an encouraging display. There were four newcomers in the Coleshill line-up and from the kick off Mile Oak were subjected to heavy pressure. Dave Reznik dominated things in Coleshill's defence and Paul Hevingham controlled midfield. Scoring chances came Coleshill's way and when John Allen put Paul Montague through with a fine swerving pass but the final shot skimmed the wrong side of the post. Then Coleshill were awarded a corner after a fine run by Casey from the full back position and Allen's flag kick beat the clutching fingers of keeper Scandrett. Montague was unmarked on the far post but he headed wide. Brendon Casey was again involved in a smart move and playing a one-two with Moseley he collected the return on the edge of the penalty area and pushed a pass forward to Bob Grant, whose first time shot was tipped over the bar by the bust Scandrett. Coleshill did not relax their efforts in the second half and Grant sped down the right wing, beat two defenders and sent in a cross to Moseley who hit a great volley which Scandrett did well to hold. Coleshill Substitute Terry Montague replaced Griffin in the 70th minute and he immediately went close with a 30 yard shot. Although not been able to turn their superioirity into goals, Coleshill gave hope of a new era in the club's fortunes.
