Colehill’s Cup Hopes Shattered
Having lost 3-1 at Knowle the previous week in the F.A.Vase, Coleshill suffered a similar fate on Saturday, this time in the first round of the Birmingham Senior Cup. Bennett gave Coleshill some hope in the first minute, when his long range shot was just too high, but Knowle immediately replied, forcing a corner, and from Clarke’s flag kick Sealey placed the ball into the net, with Coleshill’s defenders left standing. Gibbons and Dore were prominent in some Coleshill reprisal raids, but in the 30th minute Speake got the better of Hevingham to score with a cracking 20 yard shot and put Knowle 2-0 ahead. Coleshill stuck to their task and when Knowle were hesitant in cutting out a free kick from Sarson the ball ran loose to Gibbons, who reduced the deficit from close range. Near half time Hevingham saved Coleshill by hooking a certain goal from Holloway off the line, with keeper Sammons beaten. A third goal for Knowle in the 65th minute put paid to Coleshill’s cup dream. As in the Vase, the previous Saturday, it was Frank Wootton who notched the third goal, running on to a cross from Sealey. This Saturday Coleshill return to Midland Combination First Division duty, looking for their first win and taking on fellow strugglers West Midlands Police at Pack Meadow, kick off 2.45p.m.
