Coleshill Still Searching For First Point

Coleshill entertained fellow Midland Combination strugglers West Midlands Police on Saturday and after a positive start eventually ended up losing by the odd goal. Coleshill won three corners in the first three minutes, one following a good run by Gibbons and although two hectic goal-mouth scrambles ensued, the Police managed to keep their goal intact. Police replied with an upfield surge, but Coleshill counter-attacked and Page headed just wide from a cross by Allen. Police answered with a shot from Evans just off target and the same player brought a fine save from Sammons. At this stage Coleshill soaked up strong Police pressure and replied with Hunt giving Gibbons a chance to have a crack at goal, but the Police keeper did well to save. In the 34th minute Griffin headed into the Police net, but the referee ruled he had pushed an opponent in going for the cross by Gibbons. Within three minutes of the second half the deadlock was broken when a mix-up in the Coleshill defence allowed Evans a clear run at goal and although Sammons narrowed the angle the Police striker calmly slotted the ball home. Police followed up to win a corner, which Ellis headed strongly, but Sammons saved brilliantly. It took 10 minutes for Coleshill to regain some composure and they then attacked strongly to gain four successive corners. From one, taken by Page, the ball was met first time by Hunt, whose volley was inches too high. Allen also went close to levelling matters and Gibbons saw a shot cleared off the line.
This Saturday Coleshill Town, who have now lost all of their nine league games, visit Solihull Borough.
