CASTLE BROMWICH NEWS WROTE
Coleshill’s Second Half Flop

Nothing is going right for Coleshill Town. They have lost all their eight games played in the Midland Combination First Division and last Saturday they tumbled 3-1 at Knowle in the first round of the FA Vase. Ironically, Coleshill have been drawn away to Knowle again this Saturday, in the first round of the Birmingham Senior Cup.
Hopes of Coleshill breaking their duck and recording their first win of the season vanished in the second half as a much more experienced Knowle side took control. Once again Coleshill, as they have done in so many games, gave a competent first half performance and in the early stages Gibbons and Dore were prominent in lively attacks which developed down the left flank. At least half a dozen accurate crosses created problems in the home defence and on the half hour Dore saw home keeper Jones fingertip away a great effort, after he had broken through Knowle’s rearguard. All Coleshill’s pressure went unrewarded and in the 35th minute it was Knowle who took the lead, Clarke miss-hit a shot and the ball fell straight at the feet of Holloway, who could not believe his luck as he scored with a well placed shot, wide of keeper Sammons. Coleshill replaced Hevingham with Stewart at this stage and Griffin almost put them level when a close range shot, following a corner from Allen, was smothered on the line by Jones. Knowle opened the second half strongly, forcing Sammons into action with two last ditch saves, before Speake, the former Boldmere and Sutton Town striker, prodded the ball into the net during a goalmouth scramble . Stewart pulled a goal back for Coleshill in the 60th minute with a splendid first time lob that dipped viciously to beat Jones all ends up. Coleshill’s hopes of a fight back were shattered however, when Wootton was allowed far too much space to get in a powerful shot to seal the issue and take Knowle into the Second qualifying round of the F.A.Vase.
