Early Setback But Coleshill Recover To Win Well
A polished performance from Coleshill who were by far the better side. After suffering an early setback when Oscar Deeming put through his own goal, they hit back well and ran out easy winners, with Scott Coleman the “man of the match”. Eddie Hanlon was in sparkling form on the left wing and led the Malvern defence a merry dance, and after several promising attacks from Town had proved fruitless, Malvern took the lead completely against the run of play. In midfield Deeming, under pressure, attempted a back-pass, but lofted the ball over keeper Garnell’s head. Malvern came into the game with Mullen prominent and his fine shot brought out a magnificent save from Garnell. Coleshill regained their composure and pushed forwards with Coleman and Lyons a constant threat, but they were unable to draw level before half time. Several corners were forced in the second half and from one, John Allen sot inches wide. Another corner came in the 65th minute and Coleman’s pinpoint centre was scrambled over the line by Les Owen, who was nursing a knee injury. The goal served as a fill-up for Town, who stroked the ball around with confidence and kept Malvern under constant pressure. The visitors brought on substitute Harris to try and stem the tide, but Coleshill jumped in front in the 73rd minute. Coleman was upended by Bickerstaff, he took the free-kick himself and found Phil Dunn, who nodded home. An 84th minute corner produced Town’s third when Coleman’s flag-kick was only half cleared and John Bown slammed home the loose ball. Les Owen was then replaced by Bob Whillock, but the issue was beyond doubt at this stage. A Powerhouse display from Coleshill, with superior skill in every department.
