Coleshill edged a seven goal thriller as they came away from Cambridge with maximum points. In one of their first chances of the game, it was Josh Mansell who put the visitors in front in the 19th minute. However the home side pulled level when Jarid Robson found the net with ten minutes of the half remaining. And it soon got better for City as Mikey Davis stroked the ball home to make it 2-1. The hosts looked to have made the game safe when Robson met a cross from Jonas Kalonda but Coleshill had other ideas and scored three times in the last twenty minutes. Kai Tonge got one back before Kieran Donnelly made it 3-3 with four minutes left. Gio Dainty then proved the hero in the last minute.

DRAMATIC INJURY TIME WIN AS COLEMEN FIGHT BACK FROM 3-1 DOWN TO WIN 3-4

In a game dominated by a keenly contested midfield with few clear goal scoring chances in the first half, both sides started nervously. As the half progressed, the home side, perhaps more familiar with the surface, appeared to win the majority of the important challenges, had more useful possession and passed the ball more accurately than the away side. Coleshill were unable to get their wide players forward, and often resorted to the long ball so crosses were at a premium. An early cross by Liam Molesworth was collected by Alex Tomkinson but his shot went over the bar. A free kick by Parr almost fell kindly to Gent but under pressure from Shay Palmer he put his shot wide. Similarly a cross from Swift found Gent but Josh Mansell cleared for a corner. Ofosu was then booked for a foul on Josh Mansell. Pressure by City from Bradley’s cross found Davis in a goal scoring position but he was thwarted by keeper Paul Hathaway who received a rib injury and a new shirt during the challenge. There were no further significant chances up until the 19th minute. A long through ball by Niall Rowe was collected in space by Josh Mansell on the right. As he cut in and ran goalwards, the home supporters shouted for off side. Mansell let fly 12 yards out and beat keeper George on his near post. The referee spoke to the linesman and despite loud appeals by the players and home fans, the goal was given.

Cambridge 0- Coleshill 1

In the second quarter the midfield battle continued resulting in numerous fouls and free kicks. On 30 minutes a free kick by Bradley resulted in a goalmouth scramble but the ball was quickly gathered by the experienced Paul Hathaway. Fraser Doyle was booked for a mistimed tackle. Following a returned goal kick, Ingrey and Robson combined well, with Davis crossing and Robson, unmarked on the penalty spot, shot into the bottom left hand corned giving Paul Hathaway no chance. 35 minutes.

Cambridge 1 – Coleshill 1

At the end of the half Liam Molesworth was booked for dissent. Four minutes of extra time were applied. A long pass from Swift to the left of the penalty area was collected by Robson who got to the ball before the away defence. Niall Rowe tackled Robson and fell to the floor. His attempted clearance rebounded off Robson and shot across the area to an unmarked Davis who scored unopposed.

HALF TIME Cambridge City 2 – Coleshill 1

Both sides went for the win and the intense midfield battle continued straight from the restart giving the referee a busy afternoon. After 57 minutes Ingrey, the hard working number nine for Cambridge, played a short pass to Parr. His cross found the ever present Robson between Shay Palmer and Gio Dainty. The striker slotted the ball home, to the delight of the home crowd, giving City a deserved 3-1 lead.

Cambridge 3 – Coleshill 1

Both managers then chose to make important substitutions, with very different results. Cameron Stuart immediately replaced Alex Tomkinson, Sam Moore and Fraser Doyle with Joe Phillips, Kieran Donnelly and Amarvir Sandhu. Robbie Nightingale substituted Ingrey for Barnes on 65minutes and Wood for Ryan eight minutes later. The visitors upped the tempo immediately and began to contest the second ball more keenly, and improved the accuracy of their passing. A period of intense pressure from Coleshill followed. Amarvir Sandhu made a long mazy run down the right wing and forced Ryan to concede the first of four corners, all taken by Joe Phillips. George punched away the first, Bradley cleared the second and Gent the third. The fourth short corner was eventually kicked up field. Following a goalkick by George, the ball was headed back by Gio Dainty and then controlled by Liam Molesworth, who got away a short pass to Amarvir Sandhu. In the ensuing tackle the ball shot towards the goal. Kai Tonge was able to exploit his speed, reached the ball well in front of George and slotted it home. 71 minutes.

Cambridge City 3 – Coleshill Town 2

The goal seemed to unsettle the Lillywhites who looked nervous but still kept going. An excellent combination of passes between Liam Molesworth and Gio Dainty, with some fine dribbling from Amarvir Sandhu produced a tense moment in the home defence but Joe Phillip’s shot was just wide. After a foul on the free-running Amarvir Sandhu, the resulting free kick went over the bar. City then mounted three strong attacks. A long pass by Ofusu put Barnes clear but a last minute tackle by Joe Phillips took the ball and produced a Coleshill free kick. A kick from keeper George was fielded by Barnes who was denied a one on one with Paul Hathaway by the linesman’s flag, the substitute booked for kicking the ball away. A long ball by Parr found Swift who took the ball into the box but his shot went well wide under pressure from Josh Willis. From the goal kick, Paul Hathaway found Niall Rowe, his long pass was taken into the City penalty area by Kieran Donnelly. He beat two defenders before shooting into the bottom left hand corner to provide the Colemen with a well deserved equaliser. 86 minutes.

Cambridge City 3- Coleshill Town 3

Both teams then went for the winner providing an exciting finale in the last few minutes . The home fans got behind their team and both sides applied pressure. City had a penalty appeal turned down when the ball was kicked straight at the arm of a Coleshill defender. With three minutes of extra time signalled by the referee, a series of throw-ins down the right hand side left Joe Phillips with the ball thirty five yards out. His excellent cross went right into the danger area where a superb header from Gio Dainty beat George to fire the Colemen into the lead, leading to a massive celebration by all the outfield players and away supporters. The last frantic seconds included a good shot from Kai Tonge well saved by George and a late City corner that led to a melee in the six yard box which ended when Paul Hathaway pounced on the ball. There was late drama as the referee awarded cards to Shay Palmer and Ofusu, the latter was dismissed for a second yellow card which took several minutes to complete .
