MATCH REPORT
A very close game between two very evenly matched sides. Both defences were solid and committed making clear cut opportunities few and far between. Coleshill did have the better chances but just couldn’t find their cutting edge. Josh Mansell headed at debutant keeper Harry Fisk from a George Washbourne cross. Liam Molesworth almost got to a throw in to the keeper. Fisk then saved a bicycle kick by Sam Moore after a long throw in and a header from Town captain Taylor Carter-Byrne at the foot of the post and then an even better save from a Josh Mansell shot. Taylor Carter-Byrne’s header from a Fraser Doyle corner was cleared off the line and Liam Molesworth shot straight into Fisk’s arms from a free kick just outside the box. But as the half drew to a close Spalding snatched the lead from a break away and a fine through ball by Josh Hinds to send Jordan McCleod away and he toe poked the ball past the advancing Town keeper Paul Hathaway.

Spalding were well organised in the second half determined to protect their lead. Liam Molesworth headed a corner into the side netting and then a second header straight at the keeper but Coleshill finally broke down United’s determined defence on 73 minutes when Josh Mansell crossed into the six yard box and after a scramble Liam Molesworth lifted the ball over bodies on the ground and into the net for the equaliser. Coleshill were on top but in reality the game deserved to finish in a draw but Spalding scored the winner on 83 minutes with another breakaway goal involving the same partnership. Josh Hinds‘ dangerous cross was intercepted by McCleod who had sneaked between centre back Niall Rowe and keeper Paul Hathaway to once again toe poke home.
A disappointing result as Coleshill couldn’t repeat their superb performance at Halesowen the week previous. Spalding’s defence dealt with just about everything that the Colemen threw at them and then made the most of the few chances they created. Coleshill are still in the play off places and now have a run of games against teams further down the table as they approach the halfway stage of the season.
