THE EXPRESS AND STAR WROTE
Coleshill’s Sam Moore fired a first-half brace as long-time league leaders Halesowen were reduced to ten men and slipped off the top of the table in front of a bumper crowd of 1,255 fans. Fourth-placed Coleshill started brightly and George Washbourne cut in from the left to cross along goal in the 4th minute with Liam Molesworth’s following shot cleared off the line. Simeon Cobourne then earned the Yeltz a 5th minute corner and Jack Holmes hit a 20 yard shot at visiting goalkeeper Paul Hathaway. But the game changed dramatically in the 19th minute when Holmes was harshly shown a straight red card for his challenge on Josh Mansell. The Colemen went on to take a 27th minute lead after Rob Evans lost the ball allowing MOORE to advance and take advantage to beat goalkeeper Dan Platt. As Halesowen tried to recover, Hathaway gathered at the feet of Harry White in the 28th minute. But Halesowen then missed a golden chance to level from a 29th minute penalty when Shay Palmer brought down Cobourne but Hathaway dived to his right to save White’s low penalty spot-kick. Coleshill doubled their lead two minutes into first-half injury time with another soft goal when a free-kick was turned back in and MOORE was left to touch home his second goal from close range.

Halesowen made a much better, high-energy start to the second period and McKauley Manning shot at Hathaway in the 55th minute. But Coleshill were more than happy to protect their lead as the Yeltz came up against an impressive, solid red wall of defence and failed to find a way through. A 72nd minute shot from substitute Alex Tomkinson was tipped over the bar by home goalkeeper Platt and Giovanni Dainty headed the resulting corner onto the post. Late on, Hathaway gathered a 77th minute deep free-kick away from home substitute Jordan Goddard in front of goal. Coleshill substitute Kai Tonge’s 81st minute shot from a wide angle earned a corner and at the other end an 84th minute corner from Robbie Bunn was cleared away near the goal-line.

MATCH REPORT
This is the third season that Halesowen and Coleshill have been in the same league but this is the first game at The Grove. In 2019/20 the sides met at Pack Meadow which ended in a 1-1 draw but due to Covid the return game never happened. It got worse in 2020/21 as the sides never met at all before the season came to an early end. This match was classed as "the game of the day" with the hosts being Top Of The League and Coleshill not far behind in 5th and it certainly got the interest of local football fans with a fabulous attendance of 1255.

Coleshill started the better, in the face of the opposition from the start and could have scored very early when George Washbourne's run and cross was parried by keeper Platt, came to Liam Molesworth who's goal bound header was cleared and Fraser Doyle’s follow up shot was blocked. The game became an even midfield battle with very little goalmouth action. On the 20 minute mark Holmes made a crunching tackle on Josh Mansell. It looked worthy of a card but a Red one was a bit of a surprise. The home side were in the process of regrouping and changing their formation and Coleshill took advantage. Amarvir Sandhu caught Evans in possession and quickly fed Sam Moore who drove at the heart of the defence and hit a bending shot from the edge of the box round the keeper and into the net. Ex Coleman Simeon Cobourne was always going to be the danger man and he was fouled by Shay Palmer just inside the box, the referee pointing to the spot. White took the responsibility for the spot kick but Town keeper Paul Hathaway, on his 370th appearance, saved the penalty as, those that know him, know he has done so time and time again. It was Cobourne again causing problems with his pace and his shot went just over the bar. Sam Moore went down in the box but a penalty would have been harsh on the home team. An early long ball almost gave Liam Molesworth a clear run at goal but home keeper Platt was way, way out of his box and headed the ball out of play. In time added on at the end of the half a Fraser Doyle free kick was cleared as far as Josh Mansell who sent the ball back into the box and Sam Moore was the quickest to react to tap home his and Coleshill's second goal.

Even with ten men Halesowen really made a game of it in the second half but they came up against a determined Coleshill side who gave very little away. Time and time again Halesowen cleverly got the ball up the field but in the final third they were thwarted at every juncture. Coleshill rarely troubled home keeper Platt but managed the best chance of the half. Alex Tomkinson's shot from just outside the box was acrobatically tipped over the bar by Platt and from the resulting corner Gio Dainty's header hit the outside of the post. There was some panic in the Town box from a free kick but Hathaway was quick to dive on the ball to relieve the pressure. Substitute Kai Tonge had a run and shot that Platt pushed away for a corner. A White goal bound shot was blocked yet again, and Cobourne went down in the box for the third time, with the same result, nothing. The final action was a Goddard free kick that White headed wide.

The result knocked Halesowen off top spot and Coleshill jumped one place to 4th in the table. Coleshill are a young side, learning more each game but what they have learned is not to be bullied and stand toe to toe with the physical teams at this level. They might be viewed as a team "punching above their weight", but this result shows they are where they belong and will take some shifting from that end of the table.
