MATCH REPORT
Both sides decided to rest a few players for this Birmingham Senior Cup match with the harder and more important League games coming up later in the season. As it turned out it was a very enjoyable game to watch with both teams getting the ball down and playing some entertaining football. Coleshill got off to the best possible start with captain Taylor Carter-Byrne scoring with a header from a corner in the 4th minute. Halesowen were back on level terms on 16 minutes. Manning had a shot from distance that was tipped over the bar by home keeper Paul Hathaway and from that corner a couple of efforts were blocked within the box with the ball eventually coming to Palmer who slammed the ball home from 10 yards out. It was end to end stuff with attractive possession football by both sides but with very little goalmouth action. The nearest either side came was an effort from Holmes that skimmed the post for the visitors and an Amarvir Sandhu shot that was saved by keeper Whitehouse and Kieran Donnelly's follow up effort was deflected for a corner. Just before half time Sandhu got on the end of a through ball, held off his marker and his left foot shot went under the keeper and into the net as Coleshill took the lead once again.
Coleshill started the better side early in the second half and Liam Molesworth had the ball in the net but was off side but Halesowen started to dictate the play and equalised for the second time on 66 minutes. Newly introduced substitute Finn shot for goal from distance, the ball deflected off defender Niall Rowe leaving keeper Hathaway stranded and the ball rolled into the net. The game could have gone either way and penalties seemed to be the most likely outcome but Halesowen got what turned out to be the winner on 76 minutes. Manning did really well down on the right touchline and played a through ball for the willing runner Bunn. He still had lots to do but he powered into the box and managed to find a gap between Hathaway and the post from an acute angle, a well taken goal. Coleshill upped their game looking for an equaliser, the nearest they came was when a header from Josh Willis was cleared off the line and the rebound was headed onto the bar by Sam Moore, and visiting keeper Whitehouse made a good save from another Moore effort.
Neither side deserved to lose but at least the game didn't go to the lottery of a penalty shoot out and a fine goal settled the tie.
