MATCH REPORT

After a disappointing defeat in the FA Cup at Long Eaton on Saturday, what an awful game that was, Coleshill were looking to bounce straight back to the form they have shown since the start of the season, apart from Stamford of course, but they came up against a very good side in Iikeston who really enjoyed playing on Pack Meadow's magnificent 3G surface played under the impressive new floodlights.

It was the first meeting between the two sides and they were both in form. Coleshill had Four wins from their five games so far and Ilkeston had won three and drawn one of their five games.

The two very physical games against Highgate and Sporting Khalsa had took their toll as Coleshill were without captain Taylor Carter-Byrne, Kai Tonge, Liam Molesworth and George Washbourne. The play anywhere, versatile Vidal Hendrickson stood in for Byrne with Harrison and Sandhu leading the line for Coleshill, Joe Phillips dropping onto the bench as he builds up his fitness.

The game started with the visitors playing some lovely football, so refreshing after Long Eaton with the ball constantly in the air, but their confidence nearly cost them as Gio Dainty was so near to catching them out as they crossed along the back line. But that was as close as Coleshill got as another impressive move gave the visitors the lead on 10 minutes. Goodson out wide found Reid on the edge of the box and he moved it on quickly to Wakefield who had time and space in the box to finish under the exposed home keeper Paul Hathaway. It was all Ilkeston at this stage, a fine cross from Bennent deserved more than the clearance it got. Amarvir Sandhu had a header go just past the post but was given off side anyway. Josh Mansell collided with the goal scorer who head butted the perimeter fence, Mansell getting a yellow card. Amarvir Sandhu was the Colemen's main threat and he got a free kick on the edge of the box but Josh Mansell's punt into the six yard box was cleared. Sandhu was next on the end of a through ball from Kieran Donnelly and gained a corner, the resulting kick coming out to Gio Dainty whose shot was blocked and a good shout for hand ball was waved away. But Amarvir Sandhu was back again just before the half hour mark with an equaliser. Kieran Donnelly had a strike at goal, Robins keeper Durrant fumbled the effort and James Harrison was straight onto the loose ball, Durrant recovered enough to get something on the ball but again it came loose and Amarvir Sandhu picked up the pieces scoring from 3 yards out. 1-1 Game on, or at least it should have been. On 36 minutes Coleshill gave away a free kick just outside the box. Captain Fenton stepped up and left footed stroked the ball into the top corner with keeper Paul Hathaway getting a hand to the ball but not enough to keep it out, one of the best free kicks ever seen at Pack Meadow! And it got worse, as half time approached Goodson travelled across the 18 yard area, passed to Wakefield who showed quick feet and jincked around two players before slotting in Campbell who smashed the ball into the net. 3-1 and a mountain to climb.

Did Ilkeston take their foot off the gas or did Coleshill up their game in the second 45, probably a bit of both but Coleshill were the better side for much of the half. On 50 minutes a magnificent through ball from Josh Mansell split the visitors defence and Amarvir Sandhu allowed the ball to roll across his body and he shot left footed under the advancing Durrant in the visitors goal. 3-2, could Coleshill turn it round? Campbell shot wide for the visitors but in general they were happy to sit back and let Coleshill come at them. Following a flowing move across the park a Josh Willis cross found Kieran Donnelly who back headed the ball onto the post and wide. James Harrison made room for a left footed shot that wasn't too far away, a Josh Mansell shot got deflected for a corner as the Colemen went in search of another equailser. Ilkeston hit back with a great strike by Verma but keeper Paul Hathaway was equal to it. The Robins keeper flapped at a Josh Mansell cross then tipped over the bar a Josh Willis header. Joe Phillips sent a free kick just past the post and Hathaway saved a shot from Brown-Hill then with time running out Coleshill's job became much more difficult as they went down to 10 men. Gio Dainty and Troke, who had just been booked, clashed with both going to ground with head injuries. Dainty got a Red card and Troke never even got a talking too. There was little time for further action after that with the visitors seeing out the game and taking the points.
Ilkeston played some of the best football seen at Pack Meadow since promotion to Level 4 in the first 45 minutes but Coleshill deserved something from the second 45 as they stopped the visitors from playing and had some chances of their own.

Coleshill travel to Histon on Saturday hoping to maintain their unbeaten record away from Home.
