MATCH REPORT

It's been a couple of years but Coleshill have travelled to Long Eaton previously in League and Cup matches and the games are always tough, your get nothing if you're not prepared for a battle. Both sides have had impressive starts to their seasons, 4 wins out of five for Coleshill and four straight wins for United without conceding a goal. Previous reports indicated that the home side like to get the ball up top quickly and a lot of their goals come from a LONG throw in and headed on and so it turned out, the ball rarely on the ground.
There was very little goalmouth action in the early stages with a stop start game due to a couple of head injuries then Taylor for United having to leave the pitch with an ankle injury. On 16 minutes the home side almost took the lead as Robinson's goal bound shot was blocked on the line by Taylor Carter-Byrne. But it wasn't long before they did take a deserved lead on 20 minutes. A cross from Marshall A. found Marshall T. who saw his shot well saved by Town keeper Paul Hathaway, the rebound however came to Gordon who was lurking on the edge of the box and he volleyed the ball into the back of the net giving Hathaway no chance. Really good goal! Coleshill hadn't been outplayed or out battled at this point and they hit back with a Amarvir Sandhu effort that sailed over the bar. Long throw expert Walker slung the ball into the box and as it came out once again to the lurking Gordon but this time his effort was off target. Jebbison had a shot from 22 yards out over the bar as the home teams long ball tactics were starting to pay dividends, Walker J. shooting wide from a similar move. Amarvir Sandhu was getting the most joy of the Town front men with his direct running and he did have an appeal for a penalty as he went down in the box, the first of many, but to no avail, and as the ball broke for Gio Dainty his shot was blocked by a hand but again the appeal for a penalty was turned away. Joe Phillips did well to gain room for a shot but the effort failed to trouble the keeper. Long Eaton almost increased their lead but a great strike by T. Marshall was denied by an equally great save by Paul Hathaway. The last action of the half saw Gio Dainty lift an effort over the bar following a free kick from Niall Rowe.
Half Time Long Eaton 1 v 0 Coleshill Town

Coleshill were much improved in the second half as they got the ball down and played football as opposed to following the home teams tactics. James Harrison got on the end of a Josh Mansell through ball and should have done better with his strike which past the post. B. Wilson had a shot for the home team that wasn't far away but Coleshill were now in the ascendancy. Taylor Byrne and Vidal Henrickson combined down the left flank resulting in a great cross that James Harrison couldn't quite reach where any touch would have resulted in a goal. Amarvir went down in the box again after a fine run but yes you guessed it, nothing given! Kyle Burke released Vidal Henrickson down the left and when he cut inside and shot Blues keeper Wilson pushed the effort out for a corner at the foot of the post. At this point it looked as though Coleshill could go on to win the game with a little luck and some better finishing but it all changed on 67 minutes. Captain Taylor Carter-Byrne was fouled and was awarded a free kick but in his rush to grab the ball he caught a United player with a reckless challenge. The Referee awarded Byrne a Yellow card but the assistant called the referee over and he then went back to Byrne to show him a Red card. It is still not clear if this was two yellow's or a straight Red, we await the Referee's report! Within a few minutes Long Eaton reverted to type and launched a long free kick into the box, the rebound shot straight back into a crowded goalmouth, a big shout for hand ball and the referee pointed to the spot. Jamie Walker converted the spot kick to make it 2-0. With Coleshill down to 10 men the home side increased the pressure in search of a third goal that would have killed the game. Jebbison came the closest with a shot just past the post. Coleshill were not out of the game but time was running out. A quick throw in found Gio Dainty in the six yard box, his first effort, a header was saved by Wilson, the ball came back out to Dainty and his second effort was saved again and as it came to him a third time his last effort went passed the post, so near to a lifeline! Josh Mansell shot from 25 yards that the keeper touched over the bar and finally, with two minutes on the clock Amarvir Sandhu jincked into the box and went down again and this time the referee pointed to the spot. Long Eaton's penalty was adjudged to have hit Kieran Donnelly's hand and on his debut he wanted to put things right by scoring in the other end, he did and it was game on! Unfortunately in his hast to get on with the game he pushed the keeper into the net and got a Yellow card. Coleshill tried but time quickly ran out so they suffered a very disappointing defeat in the FA Cup and must now look forward to continuing their fine start in the League!
