MATCH REPORT

Back in 2018/19 Coleshill and Cambridge were in the Southern League together, just for one season, with City coming out on top with two wins, both 2-0. Is it third time lucky for the Colemen?

This being only the second game of the season it’s too early to decide whether either side will be up amongst the front runners but Coleshill won their first game 4-0 and City lost 2-1 at home to Halesowen.

Coleshill started fast with a shot from Liam Molesworth in the first minute but then came a series of corners for both sides and that could be a problem as Cambridge are a big side. Taylor Bryne had the best early chance but he fired a Joe Phillips free kick wide from a good position. The corner count continued but few ended with clear chances. Liam Molesworth had a great chance to open the scoring but his goal bound shot was deflected for yet another corner. Great late pressure from Coleshill saw a Liam Molesworth shot blocked, a Josh Mansell shot scraped the post then the visitors keeper came out of his box and just got to the ball before Kai Tongue, but at the break it was all square at 0-0.

Coleshill started the second half brightly. A back pass almost let in Liam Molesworth but got a corner. A Taylor Byrne shot was blocked then back again as Joe Phillips found Josh Mansell in the box and his shot scraped the outside of the post. On 55 minutes
a back heel by Liam Molesworth to Amarvir Sandu in the box, and his legs were took away for a penalty. Up stepped Kai Tongue who sends keeper the wrong way for a 1-0 lead. Within a minute the keeper and Liam Molesworth arrived at a through ball at the same time, the ball coming to Joe Phillips who powered the ball into the net. A dozen minutes into the second half and 2-0. Coleshill were well on top now and should have had another penalty as the keeper took out Liam Molesworth, and a corner came out to Gio Dainty who shot over, with his right foot. Out of the blue on 68 minutes a cross by Swift was superbly volleyed into the Coleshill net by Davis and Cambridge were back in it. City upped their game and put Coleshill under pressure but their only real chance came from a Knight free kick that Town keeper Paul Hathaway saved then punched out the return. Coleshill held out for a second win in the league and a first win over Cambridge City.
