MATCH REPORT
A poor game on a poor pitch with, on the day, two poor teams. Both sides had their chances but the game seemed to be heading for a boring 0-0 draw then prolific goalscorer Ryan Allmark turned Des Wilkes (that doesn't happen very often) and shot left footed into the net with twenty minutes to go. Suddenly Swifts sparked into life and scored twice more without reply to give the final result a very flattering look in the home teams favour.
Coleshill's inability to lift themselves against lower opposition cost them dear again as they failed to match their recent performances. In this third encounter of the season honours were even with Swifts advancing in the Walsall Senior Cup but Town going through to the next round of the Birmingham FA Midweek Floodlit Cup.
Swifts are a big side, something that doesn't suit Town's style of play and the forward line of Danny Carter and Tim Lane got little reward from the home rear guard all afternoon. After the initial skirmishes Ryan Allmark had the first real chance as Des Wilkes poor back pass fell at his feet. The forward should have done better as he dragged his shot wide. Coleshill started to find their feet as the half progressed and forced a series of corners but failed to seriously test the keeper. Lane robbed a defender and shot wide and a speculative shot from Swifts nearly caught out Jones as he slipped but recovered. The second half continued in the same vain as Coleshill had more possession, created half chances but Bolehall looked the more dangerous on the break. From a Jones save Coleshill broke away and Josh McPherson fed Kevin Wagstaff who burst into the box. As he lined up to shoot a defender got back with a desperate challenge from behind, Wagstaff fell to the floor sure of a penalty but the Referee waved play on, much to the home teams relief. This lifted Bolehall and within minutes Allmark?s effort broke the deadlock. Simon Mead increased the lead but he couldn?t believe his luck to have so much room to pick his spot then, with Town on the attack a long clearance was misjudged by Jones who was beat to the ball by Ian Purvey who rolled into an empty net. There was still time for Wagstaff to hit the post but even if the effort had found the back of the net, it was too little too late.
