Postby Alan Beckett » Sun Oct 10, 2004 2:57 pm

MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 9TH OCTOBER 2004
FECKENHAM 1 V 3 COLESHILL TOWN
Scorers: Kevin Wagstaff, Mitchell Thompson, Craig Davies.

Coleshill put an end to their run of four defeats with, in the end, a comfortable win over Feckenham but it could have been so different. On thirty minutes, with the home team edging in front, Coleshill lost their shape, confidence and discipline which resulted in a passage of play dominated by Feckenham who were unlucky not to increase their lead. Fortunately Mitchell Thompson popped up with a much needed equaliser just before the break and with Mick Beadle's half time lecture ringing in their ears Town went on to outplay their opponents for the remaining 45 minutes.

As in previous weeks Coleshill started well but failed to make their superiority count, then conceded when Feckenham finally got to grips with the game. Danny Carter rounded the keeper but was drove wide and his effort was cleared off the line. Carter shot straight at the keeper before James Lloyd joined in the attack from deep and shot just wide from 20 yards. Craig Davies avoided two tackles before having his powerful shot saved then Carter had a shot blocked when well placed and from the rebound Feckenham broke quickly to bring Craig Jones into action with a near post save. Feckenham were just stating to enjoy some possession but the opening goal should have easily been cleared. Karl Jones was under no pressure but his sloppy clearance fell to a home forward. A couple of quick one two's released Ryan Field who finished crisply past Jones. Feckenham should have increased their lead as they shot over when well placed and Jones saved at the feet of an attacker. Town tried to regain their composure and from a corner Steve Lees headed down and Mitchell Thompson turned sharply to shoot home.

Coleshill forced the play on the resumption as Carter was fouled on the edge of the box. A quick free kick released Thompson but his effort hit the angle of post and bar.

THOMPSON CAN'T BELIEVE HIS SHOT HIT THE BAR

Carter cleverly slipped the ball between a defenders legs and his well directed shot was parried out to Thompson who looked to be shooting into an empty net before the keeper flung himself in front of the effort to parry again, this time to Kevin Wagstaff who shot over. Another Carter effort was tipped across the face of goal but there was no one close enough to take advantage. Feckenham forced Jones to concede a corner with their only meaningful attack of the half. Carter, who on another day could have scored a hat trick, should have shot with his left but dragged back for his favoured right and the chance had gone.

FRANK WOODBURN PREPARES TO MAKE HIS 100TH APPEARANCE

Beadle?s reshuffled using all three of his substitutes, Frank Woodburn earning his 100th appearance, but it was Craig Davies who finally made his aggression count in the correct area. Town?s leading scorer picked the ball up from deep on 86 minutes and ran at the defence. He looked to have been forced wide across the box but his shot back across the keeper found the far corner to put Coleshill in front for the first time. Davies then became the provider as he released Wagstaff who confidently slotted past the advancing keeper to make the points safe.

Team;- Craig Jones, Steve Lees, Karl Jones (Frank Woodburn), Des Wilkes, Mitchell Thompson, Carl Smith, Josh McPherson, James Lloyd (Stuart Howard), Kevin Wagstaff, Craig Davies, Danny Carter (Lee Dempster).
