Midland Combination Premier Division
Wednesday 6th October 2004
Pilkington XXX 3 v 1 Coleshill Town
Scorer: Danny Carter.

Coleshill again had the opportunity to bounce back from a defeat with another league game at newly promoted Pilkington XXX. It was only the hosts second game under home floodlights and both teams turned in a performance that was a credit to the league.
After early exchanges there were two goals in the space of two minutes to warm up the crowd on a cool evening. Pilkington took the lead with a clever low header from Williams who found himself unmarked about eight yards out, his deft touch left Jones with no chance. Barely had the celebrations died down when Danny Carter spotted the home keeper off his line and let fly with a thirty yard lob to bring Coleshill back into the game. With twenty minutes on the clock Hewitt took advantage of a poor clearance on the edge of the penaly area and smashed the ball past Jones from fifteen yards. Coleshill piled on the pressure and firstly Lloyd and then McPherson saw stinging shots elude the home keeper only to bounce to safety after shaking the cross bar.

The second flowed from end to end with both sides creating chances before a 69th minute penalty awarded to Pilkington appeared to have sealed the game. However Jones guessed correctly and pulled off a good save to his left hand side. The game was finally won by Pilkington when they converted a second penalty in the 88th minute.

Pilkington will win more games than they lose on this performance and it now needs manager Micky Beadle to shake up a Coleshill side that has now lost four games on the trot. An early start (12:30) on Saturday due to England's game on TV again gives the lads a chance to get back on track with a visit to Feckenham.

Team: Jones (C), Lloyd, Wilkes, Jones (K), Lees, McPherson, Thompson, Smith(Woodburn 82), Davies, Carter, Wagstaff. Subs not used:Faulconbridge and Dempster.
