SATURDAY 16th NOVEMBER
MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMIER DIVISION
COLESHILL TOWN 2 V 1 ALVESTON
Scorers: Christian Crisp, Mally Powers.
Two games, six points. Not a bad start to management for Tony Gormley. The two wins have come against mid table opposition, although both teams were in the middle of decent runs, but the next game against Rugby Town will be the biggest challenge so far as they have high aspirations of winning the title at the first attempt. Gormley lost another player before kick off, with Chris Kavanaugh deciding to join Romulus. Reserves centre back Richard Gathercole also decided to depart and follow his previous manager to Kings Heath. This brings the total to six so far, but more are sure to follow. Gormley did manage to sign Carl Smith before the game, ironically from Kings Heath, and when he took the field with twenty minutes remaining he showed enough to suggest he will be a good acquisition for the club.
Games against Alveston have never been easy over the years. Last year Town only managed one point from the two games. This game was no different as Alveston have put some good results together lately and came to Pack Meadow full of confidence. Coleshill just about had the better of the play but Alveston battled hard and never gave the home side time to settle. Coleshill took the lead on 39 mins when Christian Crisp got on the end of a Stuart Howard corner to head past the keeper. Coleshill couldn’t find the second goal that would have killed off the visitors challenge and on 72 mins they equalised during a goalmouth scramble with keeper Darren Bray unsighted. Coleshill restored their lead from another Howard cross but from open play. This time it was Mally Powers who pounced to the delight of the home crowd. New signing Carl Smith’s experience in the final twenty minutes was invaluable as he settled play down. In the last couple of games Coleshill have chased a game they had already won, instead of keeping ball and slowing the pace.
The players who have pledged their future to Coleshill are showing great determination to win for their new manager and if this attitude continues in the weeks ahead, one or two more may decide to stay and fight for Coleshill Town Football Club.
Team. Darren Bray, Lee O’Brien, Allan Thomas, Matty Devine (Carl Smith), Simon Bradbury, Lee McCarthy, Stuart Howard, Christian Crisp, Lee Dempster, Mally Powers, Mitchell Thompson. Subs not used Tony Gormley, Frank Woodburn.
Man of the Match.- Allan Thomas.
